Porsche colour charts

Can anybody suggest a resource for obtaining definitive colour charts for Porsche? I have a copy of Peter Morgan's Original 911 which lists the colours but doesn't actually show them. I really need to see the colours themselves. Naturally I'm trawling through issues of Porsche Post for inspiration.

I'm in the process of planning the restoration of my 1969 T and need to select a colour for it. I'm not interested in originality and quite preferred doing the Gulf livery but my wife suggests I should go for something a little more classic/conservative. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi - there is an excellent, although incomplete, site at:

http://www.elferhelfer.com/farben.htm

which shows many of the colours over the period. I have many of the period colour charts at home but I'm not aware of any other resource for the early colours.

I have seen Porsche 'colour sample chip' cards sometimes come up on eBay - these were issues to body repairers in the 70's to enable them to see the paint codes prior to mixing - very rare and I've always missed them.

Hi Mark,

Philip Great site... do you know of a good 356 one.. other than Wills

Will's is good - but some of the colour's are a bit, erm, not right? [:D] For example, Polyantha Red, I'm sure, isn't that dark - Pelican resources has some scans of old charts:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/literature/literature_color_charts.htm

And the 356 Registry's Dr. Whites site has excellent resources - although repeats some of the Pelican scans:

The Glasurit site has a look up system to get the colour components (although some experimentation is still needed - when we did my RS it took 30 samples to get precisely the right shade!)

Excellent site Philip, thanks. And the others will be useful too.

Well there's plenty to choose from and it helps tremendously when you can see the colours in action on the cars. I found some more colours at www.912register.co.uk/colourchart.html if anybody is interested.

Gulf Orange is nice and eye catching, although looking at the swatches/images, my wife prefers the Aubergine. I guess I should first decide who it is I'm trying to please with the colour. Keep the resources coming, I may be on this subject for a while yet.

Just a thought - what was the car's *original* colour?

Not sure at the moment. I will check the colour code on the A post plate later. I'm not fussed with reverting back to the original colour (Guards Red at present but I'm bored with that) as I would much prefer a colour that suited me than live with somebody else's choice from 37 years ago. Naturally, I don't want to select a colour that will put people off when I come to sell the car, so some thought has to go into the choice.

I've checked the plate on the A post which states that the original colour was 6822-L. Peter Morgan's book lists this as Champagne Yellow, a special order colour for 1968 (although my car is a '69 and the code differs in that year, listed as 16153).

I looked at one of the websites that you chaps suggested and found this image as an example. I have to admit that its a little too classic a colour for my taste so I will definately choose something else.
