I used them for a service on my 997.1 S.
Wasn't 100% impressed.
'Front of house' was excellent - Above and beyond in fact.
Techs were a bit hamfisted in their activities. Fine if its your daily driver, but by way of an example my 13 yr old callipers were in original factory paint. Car has done little work. They've now got chips on each side where the pads were popped in and out with a pry bar. Given the car has been serviced at least annually, and I've done a few sets of discs and pads myself in between times its not impossible to be careful, the callipers are actually a pleasure to work on. As a young boy racer dreaming of my 911 there wasn't a car I didn't upgrade brakes on, and as a rule the brakes on mine are very clearly well cared for, but I've gone thru a few sets of discs and pads. The paints not rubbish. I should have complained, but I was incredibly busy and didn't notice straight away, then COVID.
A further example is the battery vents/caps were all gouged/marked from using too small a screwdriver, likewise a few of the under car panels fit/alignment - General rushed workshop stuff really.
The car is getting older now, but it lives indoors and has 27ishK on it. It's very clean. I'm quite capable of managing the servicing etc myself, I only keep up the PC rigmarole as it remains under warranty. I should really dump it and do the work myself, and I accept I'm somewhat fussy, but a £700 oil change service does perhaps give you the right to be. If I get someone else to do work, I expect at least the level of capability as myself. I accept on the wifes RR sport that they won't, so I do all the brakes myself. Clean the callipers, take my time and make an afternoon of it, same on my own every day car (which has much better brakes than the 911). You obviously can't do this in a dealers, but they do charge less at both BMW and Landrover than porsche too (The brembo's on the Rangie are also quite clean... More so than the rest of it usually!) Point to note, it was a minor service and I wasn't expecting the pads to be removed.
Aside from that was the usual work hunting. Apparently my front dampers needed replacement due to corrosion, likewise the scavenger/tandem pump (which is rusty to be fair) but when pushed/questioned they agreed they weren't so bad. I cant see any corrosion of my damper bodies, and its a corrosion based patent that paid for the 911 a few years back, so...
All in fabulous coffee, reception and set up, but I think they need a few fussy customers to complain before there up to proper Porsche standards. Way better than Nottingham, a little behind Sheffield in experience I'd suggest. My local RangeRover dealer are about the same level. I dare say a good independent would take more care. In summary I'd rather they checked less, spent less time doing a video and were just more careful with the actual work. Typical high end dealership for a non typical customer I'd say. If you've leased something on PCP to drive and get dirty, they're spot on. If you want to keep something a long time, its a classic or its a special car to you (even though it may be a bit run of the mill in the surroundings) then maybe stick with an independent thats not hunting figures from head office.
Was tempted by the GT3 that everyone has photo'd in the showroom, but cant justify spending anything on cars I've no time to drive! Hopefully see some of you at Blyton.
