Porsche detailing

Hi,
Have just ordered a super detailing kit online am not sure whether it's going to be like!
I thought well give it a whirl,it's the Kestrel polisher and the pads with cutting compound and wax by Meguiars!
Am a bit nervous about using any tips would be appreciated.
My normal system with the Meguiars four-five stage process has worked really well:-
1)Wash car with Gold class shampoo
2)Clay bar with lubricant
3)Polish prep,Stage 1 Meguiars
4)Polish with Meguiars Polish,Stage 2 Meguiars
5)Wax with Gold class polish,Stage 3 Meguiars

So my dilemma is the system I used is great but pretty labour intensive,
Going over the whole car each time, but my car does not really have any swirls marks
as have done this at least 3-4 times a year.
Do I just use the wax in the kit or continue using the Gold class and use this with the Kestrel polisher tool?
Am looking for the ultimate shine,heh!![8|]

I don' t know the make of polisher you have but I bought the meguiars dual action polisher and it's been really easy to use with SwirlX and then synthetic wax.and all the swirls , usually so evident in black have disappeared
First time I used the kit as photo and really quick to use

Wow Tony,
Thanks that finish you have looks great!
This swirlx who is this made by?
Am not sure but I think the Meguiars dual action polisher is higher standard but this is a new venture so
am feeling the way in the set you get quite a few polishing []pads etc will post a few results over the weekend,am hoping for dry weather on Sunday
even though the car is in garage!
It would be interesting to see other members thoughts on the polishers and polishes out there, but I guess we could have a whole
debate on which is the best polish to use.
Has anyone used Swiss vax,Zymol etc?
I like the Meguiars gold class because it's glossy and leaves a nice aroma on the car!

Hi. David
The SwirlX is a meguiars product but their least aggressive compound

The dual action polisher just fits to a drill with interchangeable pads - pretty low cost - got mine from halfords

Must say the combination gave a more flawless finish in my opinion but I have always used Swissvax up to now and I then apply a coat of Swissvax Zuffenhausen over the top by hand to finish - probably over the top but my wife used to pull my leg over the time cleaning the cars hence my forum name[&o]

Picture taken before the Swissvax applied and has a flatter finish appearance than when Swissvax applied - suppose it depends what you like
Tony

Am very impressed with that finish you have there Tony now I know why you are the waxman, heh!
Have you tried the various Swissvax products or just the the Zuffenhausen type.
1)the basic wax,2)best of show 3)Crystal rock etc
I guess crystal rock may be too expensive, but am interested in the results and opinions.
The Zuffenhausen wax looks really shiny does it last long time?
Cheers,Tony

I' ve tried the Swissvax basic which works well but used to have less salt resistance. You apply them all with your bare hands not a cloth and they are eAsy to use if you have a top quality micro fibre cloth to remove excess
I bought the Zuffenhausen because it is advertised as specially formulated for Modern Porsche paint - may be marketing speel, perhaps someone can comment? It is effective but at £130 a tub I the Meguiars and Dual action polisher givers an even better - if flatter- finish so I am not sure if I will buy more Swissvax as I am nearly out
The crystal rock was applied by my OPC once and was good as from memory it has PTFE

- now off for a long autumn road drive!

One thing the pros suggest before attacking your precious Porsche paint with a D/A is to get some practice panels from a breakers yard. It is incredibly important not to overheat the paint, particularly on the curves of wings etc, or get strike through on panel edges (Which is why taping up the panel edges is done routinely by detainers) so a bit of experimenting first might be a good idea.

If you're interested, there's masses of info on www.detailingworld.co.uk

Personally, I have all the waxes and polishes in the garage, but had GTechniq C1 applied from new, and it hasn't needed anything other than a careful wash since!

25mm 3M blue masking tape for all edges, screen wash jets etc before using the DA polisher, especially with even a gentle abrasive product. Other than that, don't be afraid of it - I also have a Kestrel DAS6, used it to great effect on the 968 coupe when I had it, really brought the paintwork back to life. Spritz with a water spray while paint correcting, as the correcting fluid dry quickly while being worked by the DA.

Be wary of detailingworld - you will not find posts/threads warning of poor workmanship - like here, name and shame is not allowed, so you'll only find praise threads.

The Gtechniq looks great on you 991 - I think you had recently had it done when we met on the Reading drive last year.
After 30k miles the front end of my GTS is looking a little battle worn despite an occasional go with the chip ex ( which I don't mind as it remins me I am driving it) but I will get the front end resprayed before I take up on the Gtechniq route

The black front splitter has really been assaulted by stones etc and is peppered with white - anyone any tips for restoring this as I have not has much luck- I suppose it's not a problem for GT3 owners as they keep getting ripped off ; so repair by replacement!
Tony

Yes, Tony, still the same coating, just a top up last year. A few chips never hurt anyone [:D]

Cheers Tony and Gents for the tips very helpful!
I will have to try this Swissvax zuffenhausen polish have sourced some for £37.99 + post 50ml pot,
the other option is,Swissvax Best of show at about £63,but am not sure which to choose!
It seems you have to use this Swissvax cleaner first to remove all the other waxes to get best results!
Tony do you think it would be ok to directly apply it over the Meguiars Gold?
Am thinking out loud but may try the polisher first on my Ford C-Max,it's Metallic black and has more swirls than my Car just to practice
first as the Porsche is Arctic silver it always seems to stay clean, but like you Tony have acquired stone chips from motorway use, annoying but have learnt not to stay or get caught behind lorries as one time caught a stone with a double hit on the bonnet and windscreen just missing top of head!
Bit dangerous these convertibles,hehheh []

I'd love to know where you're getting Swissvax at those prices! Best In Show is normally about £160, and Zuffenhausen not much cheaper!!

I ran a thread on the Langka system a few years ago

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=541529&mpage=1&key=langka%F2%84%8D%99

and I'm still using the same bottles, all you need is a bottle of touch up for whichever car you are tackling. In fact, if you keep buying Guards Red cars you don't even have to change that either [:D]

Hi Chris,have sent you a message,rgds Dave.

Dave, those prices are 50ml sample pots - also available here : http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk. The full size pots are 200ml, and are the sort of prices I mentioned above.

Cheers,
the DA polisher arrived safely and am looking forward to experimenting.
Looked at detailing world site and pretty good,I liked the planet wheel sealer and gloss,so thought may give it a go.
Will post some pics like a before and after![8D]

Well the experiment worked I used the polisher today and a very effective tool it is.
Some pics for your reference.
And my sequence:-
1)Quikclay bar with lubricant Meguiars system.
2)For front bonnet clay bar,prep polish,polish,wax with Gold class,(Meguairs).
3)Front bonnet polished with Meguiars pad by hand Swiss vax-Best of Show.

My conclusion the Swiss vax best of show is awesome about 30-40% more shiny than Meguiars Gold class which I am fan of.
I dread to think what crystal rock is like!
Crystal rock-76% carnauba wax.
Best of show 56% carnauba wax.[8D]
