Porsche Driving Experience - Millbrook

Had the most fantastic fun yesterday at Millbrook with the Porsche Driving Experience.

I know there've been recent posts about this too but just can't resist enthusing about a great morning I had.

The alpine course was hugely entertaining.

The car we (me & instructor) used was a 56 reg 997C2S with only 500 miles on the clock. This was ranted relentlessly & felt just as quick as mine with the X51 power kit. Mind you, I've not done more than 5.5K revs & only 1400 miles.

A very good time was had indeed.

Best Regards,

Greg

I too had a great time at Millbrook but can't help feeling that I would get so much more out of it now. With only test drive miles in a 911 before my session I was just too apprehensive; if only Porsche included a six month follow-up session.

The Precision PDE course is an option but at £750 a day in your own car plus insurance I'd be interested to know whether others think this is good value for money before enrolling on this.

I did the Precision course over the summer (http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=212163&mpage=2&key=Millbrook&#218398) and I thought it was definitely worth the money.

I was a little hesitant also (even after 8 months of ownership) as I did the day in my own car and really didn't want to do any damage. I paid £470 for 4 hours, plus another 200 quid for insurance. Insurance would have been free if I had A.Manning or Porsche Insurance cover though.

I think PDE people may be changing the format next year for the courses. I am already on the list for doing the Performance course (or equiv.). They should be contacting me as soon as they agree on what the new format is and what dates there are going to be in 2007.

Will know more after the New Year.

I think I might had the same car in the afternoon if it was the 14th.

It might only be 500 miles from new but I think I took about 10k off the clutch on the standing start - few too many revs.

I don't think I drove it half as fast as it would go on the Alpine circuit - spent all my time trying to remember where the track goes and where the turn in points were - some of which were described as "the new bit of armco where a Boxter went off" etc - calms you down on the first few laps I guess.

Think I need the driver upgrade to get the most from it so additional training definately a good idea for me.

Ps. Lots of Turbo drivers that day - Porsche must be shifting a fair few.

Well observed Greg.

The standard car when 'ranted' ? is comparible to the X51 car when 'running in'.

What joy awaits you when you can let it off its leash !

Millbrook is fab isn't it.

The event intro was a Flitwick Manor & was a good venue. I was impressed with the straight Carrera tiptronic too. More than adequate performance.

Indeed I can't wait either. The tyre noise on the Millbrook C2S was less than mine I remember now. Should have asked what tyres they were. I don't like tyre noise & will wish to choose quieter ones when that expensive day arrives. Don't know what to go for though.

I read a review on some web site, can't remember which but if I find it again I'll let you know, that rated noise on Bridgestone's at 3.5 and Michelin's at 4. I think higher numbers were quieter. My car came with Bridgestones fitted and I do find road noise annoying at times although very surface dependent, but this being my first Porsche I have nothing to compare them to so may be this is normal. All this talk of Millbrook and Alpine roads stirred some not too deeply buried urges, so earlier today I found myself heading for the hills. Had a really good time, great roads and wonderful scenery; can't think why I don't get out more.

Well done Snarf. As we sit in the next traffic jam suffering a lumpy ride, terrible tyre roar on the motorway, and handsfree phones that don't work, it's sometime easy to forget why we drive these cars - until we do as you do and head for the hills ! Glad you enjoyed yourself, thanks for sharing that !

snarf,

I have Michelin Pilot Sport 2's on mine and dont find them too obtrusive. You should expect and revel in a more intimate experience with the whole machine than with say, a sanitised Merc anyway.

There is a simple cure for tyre noise as it happens, PSE switched to 'on' permanently !
