have finally got my invitation to the driving experience, promisd when i ordered my c4s in november last year.,-been offered mira and millbrook, any recommendations?, <i will be going in december>

I can't offer any constructive advice as I have only been to Millbrook, but can echo Alex's view that it is great fun, especially the simulated alpine pass section.

This being my first 911 (C2S) I was concerned about handling differences and to allay my fears my "driving consultant" took me through some very high speed runs through the flat curves with and without sports mode and finally with PSM switched off. It was only with PSM off that he was he able to get the back to slide out significantly. I soon realised that the limits of this car are well beyond my comfort zone.

What section was that on? The only time we played with the Sport/PSM was on the skid pan. Lifting off at 50mph and violently turning right seemed to have the desired affect! I couldn't even begin to imagine the speed required before grip was lost in a corner under normal circumstances.

When I did my other test-day we were doing tight concentric circles at a constant 60mph and I could barely take the g-force. The car on the other hand behaved as if it was no big deal. Even doing an emergency brake during the same exercise it let me steer in exactly the same line until we came to a stop. I couldn't believe it.

Unfortunately I didn't get to try out the skid pan, but a few years previously did experience this at the Nurburgring courtesy of Ford with a Jaguar XK

I'd plump for Millbrook everytime, MIRA is in my home town but doesn't have the same wide degree of experiences...
I would travel to Millbrook, but worth it...

Snarf, I believe that was called the inner handling circuit, concrete, narrow with a little jump/bridge in it....
If so that where I was shown how to straighten the bends[;)] and it included PSM off...[8D]

Garyw, you are probably correct. Looking at the photograph again the inner circuit looks more like I remember it. Even with PSM off and what, to me, seemed like ludicrous speed (any Space Balls the Movie fans out there?) the consultant had to do some deliberately daft things to get the back to really break loose, i.e. fast in and power off in the corner.

Dave, either venue is going to give you a great time, but I'd add that I prefer Millbrook too, as it has the alpine course which you must drive at any opportunity. Think before you go about what you want to learn, and the instructor will make sure he covers this aspect - like snarf I was worried the back end was going to let go, and so we did some work to see how hard it is to make it slide. Totally agree that the cars limits are way beyond mine, and you're unlikely to come unstuck on the road. But until you've felt it for yourself...

Lucky devil, enjoy yourself, and have a great time ! It's even better if it's raining...

Dave,

As has already been said, the cars limits are way beyond the average 'decent' drivers comfort zone, it was honed by Walter Rhorl after all !

Alpine circuit at Millbrook is amazing, I could have driven around there all day although it would probably make you queasy eventually.

What staggered me most was the braking performance, the car stops within its own length at 30mph for example ! Unbelievable.

Enjoy your day.

The standing mile is also good fun at Millbrook. You should see 150+ if you try in a C2S so go for it and brake much later than you think. I managed 165 in a Turbo in my second visit there and could have gone much quicker but kept hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear due to lack of skill etc. Try the hands free emergency stop from 100!!

Banked circuit aso impressive. You are meant to be limited to 135 if not wearing a helmet but my instructor briefly saw 180 in the Turbo and he was happy for me to cruise at 150 for a while which is not something you can do very often.

I have been to Millbrook twice and would love to go again. How about a 997 Register visit Rob? Would give you a ride in the Turbo!!
