Porsche extended used warranty vs AA

Morning folks
The warranty on my ‘16 Cayman is up in the new year. I’m looking to buy a further 3 year warranty and my uninformed instinct is to stay with the Porsche policy. But I see a similar deal with the AA at a significant saving. I have no experience of these things, and wonder if wiser heads can offer guidance as to whether third party warranties are worth the paper they’re written on.
Many thanks

Hi Damian,

Both will be third-party insurance based policies, and therefore subject to strict T&Cs.

I can’t advise one way or the other but can only suggest that you look at the T&Cs of both policies very carefully and base your decision on the actual level of cover provided by each one, most notably for a significant failure such as that of the engine or transmission, especially PDK if you have it. As always the devil is in the detail, and it’s what’s not covered which is important.

The Porsche Extended warranty is tried and tested and provides an excellent level of cover, with limitations, which offerings such as that from the AA and Warrantywise may be able to match, but you’ll need to do your homework carefully.

Here's the Porsche extended warranty page along with the cost and what is/isn't included

In brief, £1800 for 3 years warranty. Excluded items are:

[ul][*]Wiper blades[*]Tyres[*]Brake pads and brake discs[*]Shock absorber[*]Clutch disc and clutch pressure plate[*]Drive belt including tensioning guide rails and roller[*]Spark plugs[*]Batteries[*]PDCC reservoir[*]Coolant[*]All light bulbs (excluding Xenon and LED-lamps)[*]All filters, fluids, oils and greases[/ul]Personally, I don't think that's too bad given that a new PDK is ~£12k and a new 4.0 engine is £36k. Only downside is that the car needs to be maintained at an OPC so you'll be paying Porsche tax for servicing.
