Porsche extended warranties

Last December I bought the Porsche approved extended Two year warranty through Porsche centre Leeds for my turbo wasn’t cheap. I have learnt this week that Porsche are extending the factory warranty on new cars by three months to recognise the cars being laid up during lockdown but this does not apply to extended warranties that have been purchased which seems bizarre. I have therefore taken this up with Porsche GB customer Services who have opened a complaint case so that it will be looked into and a formal response made.

The immediate view they gave was the decision over the purchased warranties was not Porsche’s to make as it involves a third party but my counter to this is that Porsche set up the arrangements with third parties and only they sell the warranties and therefore well able to negotiate extended terms.

I cannot be the only member in this position holding a similar view and given there is strength in numbers the bigger the support and lobbying the better so if any member in a similar situation holds a similar view then making a similar approach to Porsche GB customer services would be helpful. I spoke with a Matthew in customer services on 0118 919 1744 option 3.

My understanding was that the warranties were extended to cover those that were due to expire in the lockdown period and who couldn't extend as everything was shut.

It was never designed to give everyone a three month extension in their insurance policy.

That was the logic behind it Mark.

Customers with extended warranty that is due to expire may try using the same argument, if they are unable to obtain the necessary 111 point check and inspection to maintain their warranty due to COVID-19.

We cannot all expect another three months warranty gratis, although it would be nice ??

My car was 3 years old in April and in March I booked in for an MOT and 111 check with a view to buying an extended warranty. When the POC was unable to fulfil my appointment due to Corona Porsche said they would honour my existing new car warranty until such time as I could get a new appointment. My car is at the OPC at present and in addition to the MOT and 111 check has had a new transfer box fitted under warranty. I will complete purchase of an extended warranty when I collect tomorrow.
I think Porsche have done the right thing by those who couldn't obtain the extended warranty through no fault of their own but I don't see why they should be expected to give everyone some free warranty!

Just contacted my local POC to book my car in for 111 check pre warranty extension and advised from this month no longer required if car is currently under warranty. You can just pay over the phone for the extension.

Porsche saving the customer money [:-] , what`s the catch ? :ROFLMAO:

Although, going by a few recent examples posted … a successful claim is becoming increasing difficult

The 3 year warranty on my 991 GTS expires in March and I have just received the invitation to "protect my investment". What are the options and what are the views on whether this is a worthwhile investment? Oh .... and how much does it cost?

Thanks

Like RJS 993 I have a warranty on 2018 Cayman (bought Feb 2020) expiring at end of February 2022. In the past I've heard of occasions where the extended warranty is drawn so tightly that it's a challenge to make any successful claim. Can anyone provide a view on whether it's worth extending? Is the warranty 'customer friendly' or weighted heavily in OPC favour? What sort of price/period is average?

My 981 has had a few issues, all addressed under warranty with no questions asked.

The air-con lost its chill but nothing found so re-filled and okay since.
I had a fault normally associated with the brake pedal bush but as mine is a later car, checked and okay.
The big one was the failure of the USB port in the glove box, the cable to it was changed but the fault remained, it required the pcm module to be replaced which would have been eye watering to buy.
After these things I (almost) happily paid @£1800 for three years extension.

Charlie,

It’s important to appreciate that unlike the factory warranty the extended warranty is a just a Porsche administered third-party insurance policy which includes a large number of exclusions, so it’s important to read the documentation to understand what is and isn’t covered before committing to it.

One really good thing about having it is that if you have a major engine or transmission failure requiring a replacement unit the extended warranty should cover it. For example, with minor exceptions the PDK transmission isn’t repairable, and if you have a failure that means the warranty would cover a bill most probably in excess of £12k!

Of course much depends upon your attitude to risk.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply. I'm leaning towards taking the warranty but will discuss with OPC Preston to weigh cost vis a vis precisely what's covered and risk.

Charlie

Hi Peter
Thanks for your helpful reply. Plan to discuss with OPC Preston but currently leaning towards extending warranty.
Charlie
