Porsche GB's dubious website

Wishing to explore some of the new Boxster's goodies I tried the configurator at http://www.porsche.co.uk. Sadly I found it almost useless.

It's painfully slow, even from a fast PC with broadband. Shockwave animations fail, despite using the latest player. Unknown page errors abound, and I was unable to save, load or print a configuration. The basic 2.7 price is different from that quoted by my OPC, and even the Porsche GB address contains an obvious typo.

I emailed these comments to Porsche GB but so far without any acknowledgement. Am I alone in thinking that the website should reflect the quaility of the marque or many a potential customer will go elsewhere?

:ROFLMAO:Brian like you I found it TOTALLY useless! [:D] A complete waste of time and very annoying.com []

I originally used this mid 2001 to spec my 2002 MY 2.7 Boxster and it worked rather well. However I tried to use it again the following year around the time the face-lift Boxster was released and gave up because it was riddled with errors.

This is a shame because the car configurator spoils what is generally a fantastic website. You would expect Porsche to fully scrutinize and test their website content before releasing it to the public domain.

In view of the number of posts on this forum requesting advice with configurations, perhaps we could help with a simple options classification guide for new buyers.

This might be achieved by:

1. - inviting forum users to complete a short poll rating each major option out of 10
eg 0 = completely useless, ... , 2 = OK, but no resale value, ... , 5 = no opinion, ... , 7 = good value if you can afford it, 10 = must have.

2. - producing a list of average scores and publishing them on the club website

3. - periodically rerunning the poll to see how scores change over time.

I'm game to design and run the poll and to analyse the results. Any suggestions on the options to be included and the scoring scale?

I wonder if Porsche have a warranty issue with their web designers???? Will it be fixed as a goodwill gesture??[:D][:D]

What, they keep "fixing" the problem, but they have persistant re-occuring RML's?
(Random Memory Leaks)[:D]

It does work on the mac and quite speedily when I tried it a couple of days ago. Not with Safari or Explorer, but flawlessly with Firefox.

would have to agree I don't think the configurator was fully working on my PC, the engine options were limited with no Turbocharged listed and the Interior Bling features were rather bland []

Andrew,
we all fight these things, likely to be security settings in ether IE, or your XP firewall (if on XP SP2) or your hardware firewall. Could be DNS server. If all this sounds like gobbldegook, give me a phone and I will see if my limited knowledge can help
