Porsche Ice Training

Hi

Has anyone done any of the Porsche Ice Training courses either in Austria or Finland? If so, would they mind sharing experiences and thoughts about value etc. Does anyone know if they run similar courses in North America (where I am guessing they may be cheaper?). Thanks in advance. Andrew

Someone did a write up on here (and in Porsche Post I think) a year or so ago. - Try a search on Camp4

Geoff has beaten me to it on the links. If you let me have your E Mail address I will send you the write up I did for the Post a couple of years ago. The article was on Camp 4 I also did one on Camp 4 S which I can send you but this was not published.

Camp 4 is good Camp 4S is brilliant fun. I am booked to do Ice Force this winter. Price seems expensive but you dont have to spend anything else as food drink etc is provided and is very good. In my view this is one of the best things you can do in a Porsche as you spend 3 days sideways and learn a lot about what the car can do. The evning entertainment is also great fun which is also included.

I number of people on this forum have attended. Nick USA has done all three and I believe is a big fan like me

This video will give you a good idea of what it is like:

I have only been to Finland and can not comment on the USA. It does get very cold especially at night with -35 not uncommon

Brilliant - thank you all very much. I assume you have to do Camp 4 before you can do 4S (certainly seems that way from the brochure). Bob - I will PM you my email address. What a marvellous thing this forum is. All the best, Andrew

Actually Bob I dont seem to be able to PM you, but my email address is in my profile so you should hopefully be able to send to me. If not for some reason then do please say and I will post my email address on here in some cryptic way so as to confuse the spam bots! Andrew

They willl ask you to do Camp 4 first unless you can convince them you have the necessary experience. I have sent you an E Mail

The pre-requisites are:

Driving Licence etc -> Camp 4 or Precision -> Camp 4S or Perfomance -> Ice Force

However, (personal opinion) unless you have done either Camp4 or 4S you wont get the full benefit out of Ice Force.

With regards to USA, yes they have run Camp4 Colorado in the past. However, the conditions of the track and the instruction are much better in Finland.

Changes in Camp4 at Rovaniemi from last year and going forward; you used to drive your Porsche from the hotel to the track. This has now changed to a coach to and from the track. (Safety reasons).

Change to Ice Force 2011; 5 cars per group not 4 as per previous years but two instructors not one as before.

(The tracks are so long for Ice Force, so 5 cars wont reduce the driving time and two instructors allows better supervision of the long track)

Edit: If you get a choice of dates, go later as it is slightly warmer and the daylight lasts longer
