Porsche Immobiliser

Hi All,
A quick query wrt the porsche immobiliser fitted to my 88 lux, I assume that these were fitted to all of the uk 944s? taking the form of what looks remarkably like a shrunken usb stick, it sometimes emits 1 beep and won't start and sometimes emits 3/4 beeps and starts!
the occasions when it beeps once are becoming more common. Does anyone know anything about this system? Or have any thoughts about the way ahead as the car also has some sort of clifford alarm fitted. What do the rest of you do?

Dave.

I had the same fitted to mine, and it would do the same, sometimes working forst time, sometimes I had to wait a few seconds and try again.

This was the only alarm on my car so I just had someone take it out and fit a cat 1 clifford. This gave me remote locking and a boot pop on the key.

If you've got a clifford alarm fitted already then disconnecting the Porsche one should be the best soloution, don't ask me how though!

My S2 had all the old alarms and immobilisers stripped out, and a modern system, 996 I think, fitted. I think the receipt was about £300 all-in, and it does reduce the insurance having a modern system with certificates.

I have one new original immobiliser if anyone would like to keep their original installation? Theyre very good actually and equal to Thatcham Cat.2, although they werent tested as they were becoming obsolete.

I've just replaced the key and receptacle at a cost of £70.

Turns out that the immobiliser is draining my battery though.

The unit is fitted under the passenger seat and to remove it will involve taking out the fuse box and re-making the 4 circuits it breaks.

£70??? Thats more than I wanted for the whole shooting match! I used to have a hole case full of these: I wonder what I did with it?
