Check out ebay for a Viper alarm system cat 1 thatcham approved including 3 point immobolisation for only £100!!! i have one an dthey are great, also does window and sunroof closure. Got it from ebay the company below give them a call i think it was a viper 460xv

Thanks for that, sounds great. Only thing is. just been on to a alarm fitter and hes saying it will only work if the car has already got total closure built in, an interface unit would be required. Any ideas??

Not sure on that one as far as i know all you do is link it in to the sun roof windows etc same as you would the central locking. Give them a call and see as i dont have mine linked up to them, only the central locking, didnt want it due to my windows being bit slow so would prob drain alot of power.

I am interested in the Ebay alarm/immobiliser as it is much cheaper than elsewhere it sells for over 300-quid on other sites so it looks like a bargain. I wonder why they are selling them at a third of the price.

My alarm is playing up and it currently has factory window and sunroof closing modules so hopefully these would (simply?!) plug straight in. Can I ask what the connectors are like on the Viper unit - are they just screw down terminals or do they require unique connectors??

I would love to get my alarm problem sorted out once and for all. ie bin the unit I currently have and install a viper in its place. The alarm currently arms but the alarm goes off a second or 2 after the central locking is activated - very annoying. Any help or advice on the subject would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ye i was shocked to see the alarms at this price hence this is the reason i got one. All ok to with no problems. Small key pad to so no carrying a brick in ya pocket! As for your alarm sounds like an earth problem or interior senors? Has it got ultra sonics if so try closing the interior vents when its armed, sometimes they make alarms over sensitive so even the small amount of wind through vents can cause this. Check all the bonet, door, boot pin switches to make sure they are not stuck or broken also.
Hope this helps.

If you wanted to buy a stereo do you think that spending £50 on a full system is going to sound anything like a £500 system? no. well its the same with alarms and most things in life you get what you pay for. if you are already having problems with false alarms and unable to get spares for your alarm then you know how annoying it can be. i have only seen one of these alarms fitted and personally i wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. like other american alarms they seem to be over complicated which simply means more things to go wrong.
As with all alarms once you start getting false alarms you stop turning it on so whats the point in having it?
my advice is go for either a toad or autowatch both very good alarms and reliable with good parts back up (spare remotes etc) these can also be tailored to exactly what you need in an alarm
Alarms only have a limited life span anyway so dont bother to repair just replace it after all its there to protect your pride and joy
Also if you buy an alarm and fit it yourself the thatcham approval is void as it must be installed by an approved fitter. so if your insurance demands a cat 1 or cat 2 fit it yourself and you may not get paid out in the event of theft, so maybe saving £100 wasn't worth it after all

I agree to a certain point but theses alarms are proven to be good alarms i had the option of a toad and i have fitted them befor, Cant knock them they are great but very over priced just how clifford used to be. Lets face it if some one wants your car or whats in your car they will have it how ever expensive your alarm is. I had a clifford fitted to a oprevious car it was £400! about 6 years ago i only fitted this a s i had £5k of stereo and it was used for audio shows. Never the less i came out one morning to find the car empty. Like i say if they want it they will take it. Precision alarms provide a thatcham certificate signed to make things easier. i mean who has ever heard of an insurance company going back to the fitters anyway.

it dosent matter how good the alarm is the most important thing is the fitting. a badly fitted alarm will cause problems hopefully only with the alarm not the car itself. i have seen far too many horror stories and broken down cars because of badly fitted alarms, even one fire!
a cat 1 alarm is so "expensive" because it includes fitting, if you dont know what you are doing then leave it to the people who do

Agreed electricracer a valuable point!!. I happen to know how to fit alarms so i guess its different for me.

Out of interest, what is the red 'key' for ?

Found a spare in the glovebox in its original plastic bag with a battery and a red version in a sealed clear plastic box. Was this the master unit to allow programming of new keys ?
