My Advise to all Porsche Owners is to contact your local Porsche Centre for Prices of Parts and Repairs18 months ago I had a problem with the Oil Cooler on my Porsche 996 and took it to a Porsche specialist in LincolnshireOil cooler was 180.00. Fitting nearly 1000.00 (Including 100.00 worth of Coolant and a few parts) [3 1/2hours away]Had a coolant leak from the top of the engine that looked like the cooler and Porsche Chester who had supplied the cooler said that if the cooler was FAULTY they would repair it free of charge (VERY IMPRESSED)Had already taken it to the Incredible New Porsche Centre in Wolverhampton and paid 85.00 for a checkThey where not sure what it wasHowever if the OIl Cooler was not under warranty it would cost me 405.00 FITTED!!!!!! So why did it cost me so much at the Porsche SpecialistPorsche have a policy of ensuring that their old cars are serviced and have prices to match both on parts and labourAS it turned out it was the pipe going INTO the Oil Cooler that had been TWISTED when the oil cooler had been fitted in LincolnshireSo I am even more annoyedSo Even if you don't use them they should be able to give you a price Porsche Wolverhampton even delivered the car back to me in Shrewsbury to make sure the job was done properly (It did blow another pipe on the way home after picking it up before BUT they recovered it for me)Very impressed with both Porsche Wolverhampton and ChesterI believe that with these special prices you may have to wait till free time in the workshopThanks to David, Avril Rossie and all at Porsche Wolverhampton

Interesting post. I now use my local OPC at Colchester for all servicing. Porsche have finally realised they were losing a huge amount of revenue to the indies because their prices were too high. Now they are comparable. For other work it depends what it is whether I use them. As an example I had a turbo actuator repleced by the OPC but I probably could have had both replaced for a similar price at an Indie.

I would definitely recommend checking with the OPC first unless of course you are using an Indie that you trust and who really knows your car. Dont forget to ask for your PCGB 10% discount after the OPC has quoted!

I had my car serviced at the Porsche OPC in Portsmouth. With the Club discount the price of the full service was very comparable to the price I was quoted by a good indie and I got to drive a new Boxster S for the day [:)].

Parts were comparable too, the car needed a couple of new coil packs and the price quoted was less than I could get them on-line (like for like).

There is an argument that the OPCs don't really know the older cars as well as the indies, but of course that depends a lot on which indie you choose.

There's also the argument that some indies are charging almost as much as OPC for older cars - as I discovered last August when an indie charged me almost as much for labour as OPC, then full OPC price for parts (no PCGB discount) with no proof of the source of the parts or any retention of the removed parts to show why he had replaced them. Then, on a 4 figure bill, added a further 2 1/2% for paying by credit card - as if I'd have that much cash in my wallet!!

Guess who won't be going back to that indie again!

Most important is that OPC have a fixed price for Labour on certain items
Spoke to Both Chester and Wolverhampton and was quoted just over 400.00 for Oil Cooler replacement (Would guess plus coolant!)
Lincolnshire Indie charged me 1100.00
That did include Coolant (110.00 plus lots of flushing)
Also twisted the little pipe on the top when fitting so it failed !!
Not a happy Bunny

Indies can be very arrogant>
Now OPC are better on labour prices give em a go
Remember OPC have fixed prices for lots of jobs
