Porsche 'matrix' service pricing could be clearer?

Just arranging my "˜major' service on the TT "" I naively thought the 'matrix' prices would be what it says on the tin: major-service @ £650 (inc. VAT).
For example: http://www.porsche.com/all/uk/?reading (all OPCs list the same prices so example rather than otherwise). Should I have been surprised therefore when the actual price to complete the service is more like £1500 (inc. brake fluid change)? The additional costs include spark plug changing (~3hrs inc. removal of rear bumper); drive-belt check; air-bag check; tyre sealant replacement. Even if there are marginal differences in labour rates around the country it begs the question what is the point of advertising these "˜matrix' prices alone when in actual fact they, in at least some cases, are only a portion of the spend required to complete a standard service? I asked Porsche why this was and whilst they related to the problem they didn't seem committal on doing anything about it. They referred to the pdf document on the central web-site which is slightly better: page 2 states "additional work outlined below is charged for separately", i.e. plugs etc. yet charges unspecified - how many customers will source the pdf doc let-alone consult P2...

I only tripped over the matrix when looking for something else "" read it as indicative of price, as it is presumably intended.Maybe I'm unusual in expecting a menu which states "service pricing" to be thereabouts what I might anticipate paying, negotiation aside.

I have never had a discount except for the Club 10%. Is it commonplace to get bigger reductions on service costs from an OPC. I have my 997 booked in for a Minor, new plugs, brake fluid, check belts and air con all at list less 10%.

From past experience, it is better to get a quote and then negotiate on that ..

Different OPC's different prices ... commonplace I don't know.

You could always phone another OPC and get a quote and see what they say ..

yeah, just like insurance - ring around! OPCs like to make you a coffee when you drop the car off so that you might have a wander around the showroom whilst you're reflecting on their apparent kindness [;)]

They don't want you to conduct this wandering at another OPC if they can help it [;)] so get them to price match on service cost. Be prepared to say that the cost of the fuel/time to get to the cheaper place would still make it worthwhile, etc, etc. Then make sure you get your 10% PCGB discount on top of the lower price [:D]

Would concur with this: dealers are often keen to offer discounts for you to switch provider.

On a related note I was chatting with an independent dealer who was suggesting that it was entirely fine to have a service done outside of the OPC network without invalidating the extended warranty. At prices significantly less this would be attractive and with just as capable service in my experience"¦ I didn't think this was possible and dug out the policy which states within exclusions of cover: "service, repair or maintenance has previously been performed by You or by a third party who is not an authorised Porsche Centre/Authorised Porsche Service Centre."

I'm assuming therefore that independent was simply not correct unless anyone wants to correct me, e.g. has anyone ventured outside the dealer network for servicing within the extended warranty?

I haven't ventured there myself. I ought perhaps to have familiarised myself with the Ts&Cs but when I so regularly hear about stickers and paint protection apparently invalidating the oh so precious Porsche warranty, I guess I'd be wasting my time reading through the policy for positive information about non-OPC servicing [&:]
