Porsche Museum & Factory Visit.

Just thought I would report on a fantastic week in Germany, the highlights of which was a visit
to the Audi R8 assembly plant, the Porsche Museum & Factory visit.

This was organised by Richard Watling of PCGB assisted by Stuart Wilkinson.

We drove from the North East to Dover, via a weekend in Kings Lynn, up through Belgium, and then to Stuttgart, with two
overnight stops on the way.

We returned via the Ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle, and had one stop from Stuttgart to Amsterdam.
I drove 350 miles, in one day, almost non stop and the car was just singing.
I am pleased to report that my, almost 22 year old 964, (141,000 miles) was superb and returned 29 mpg.
I was very apprehensive about the trip, however it worked out fine. We covered 1,405 miles door to door.

Just one small point, petrol is over £7.00 a gallon in some places in Germany, so not a cheap trip.
Cameron hasn't moved over there, has he?

I would recommend this visit and really is a must for all Porsche lovers. The Porsche Museum has to be seen to be believed.

Plan to get over there myself at some point. Good to go as a group drive.
Great to read you had a fantastic time and the 964 performed superbly.
Any pics of your trip?

Reminds me of a trip I did in the early 80s in my beloved 79SC:Dover - Calais, across Belgium and on to Koblenz for overnight stop and a few beers. Following day slow run down east side of the Rhine before heading across to Stuttgart. Up early following morning and turned up at the factory on spec, tried my best and only Germam "Kahn ich eine tour der factorie machen?" Fantastic and informative trip round the 911 production line and engine room, then after a couple of hours we were back on the road to the Swiss border and on past Montreaux, up into the Alps and into France, past Chamonix to Gap for overnight. Then on some great roads to Sisteron, Dragignon to St Tropez for a week on the beach, then a quick blast up the French autoroutes (under 10 hours if memory serves!) to Calais and home. Great trip and what a car......wish I still had it[:(]

Ian,

I wonder if you'd mind giving an indication of the cost of the Club factory visit trip.

In 15 years in PCGB I've never seen a pricing matrix for the trip which always led me to believe that is was way out of reach price wise.

Sounds like you had a great trip, I done load of trips to the South of France, Le Mans & the Voges in my previous 944S2 & also the 964. Porsches are consummate mile eaters & don't drink too much petrol at a cruise.

Indicative pricing is available on the PCGB website under factory visits button and can certainely recommend these trips.

Colin,
Franks right there are costs on the PCGB web site.
However if you give me a day or two to formulate my costs I will send you via E-mail a spread sheet showing
what it cost us. I reckon at least £2,000.
I've never sent an E-mail from the forum before but will give it a try.

Found it!

I'll have to get an extra paper round, but it's not out of the question...[;)]
