Porsche Museum

I'm driving to Stuttgart next weekend for a look at the Porsche museum. Can anyone suggest good, clear autobahns to try on the Sunday morning in the vicinity of Stuttgart? Plus to get the top speed out of a Gen 2 pdk any ideas whether the gearbox should be in normal, sport or sport plus? Hopefully I'll be able to try all three but anybody know from experience?

I've been trying to source Pirelli P zeros this week and they seemed to have stopped making them in N2 rating. I'm going to try some Michelin PS 2's instead...has anybody got the pilot super sports yet?

Questions, questions....

I looked into changing to super sports but they have less tread than the regular Michelins sports and was advised that really only suitable if you track regularly. It took my dealers nearly 4 weeks to source a full set of 19 inchers in March. Enjoy your trip.

For a good run on Sunday try the A81 going south to the direction of Schaffhausen/Switzerland. The Autobahn entry is about 4 minutes from the Museum and relatively calm on Sunday without any speed restrictions once you pass the Mercedes factory south of Stuttgart. You can go all the way south to Schaffhausen which is very pretty with Rheinfall and all the Swiss bits but the journey takes around 1:40hr and of course back if you are going that way. Alternatively drive south and get off at Horb am Neckar AUSFAHRT onto B32 towards Horb, then in Horb go right onto L370 back to Tubingen which will give you a nice country ride as well. If you are interested to shop you could visit the BOSS and other factory outlets in Metzingen on the B28 direction Reutlingen. All good value if you buy counterseason clothing as items are reduced by more than 60%. Otherwise, take B28 back to Herrenberg and onto the Autobahn again back to Stuttgart. It is white asparagus season in Germany so do not miss this vegatable which is a real treat fresh over there and a bit dull when it ships into the UK from places like Spain or France. Enjoy the trip!

Also visit the Mercedes Museum whilst in Stuttgart - some say its better than Porsche[;)]

You'll have some difficulty getting into 7th. in Sport or Sport Plus. You could try the latter for sharper acceleration but will probably need to drop back into normal for maximum speed.

Take care.

You'll certainly have great difficulty getting 7th in Sport Plus.[;)] Unless you have a very strong tailwind and a long down hill stretch I reckon top speed will be in 6th. I don't think the mode will make much difference, if any. The scenery passes pretty quickly at 3 miles a minute - have fun[:)]

Don't forget to take your Club membership card with you to get underground parking and Museum shop discounts at the Porsche Museum.

Just back... Club membership entitles you to half price entry (4 EUROs) plus 2 EUROs for audio guide. I stayed at the Golden Leaf Hotel which is 5 - 7 mins walking distance away. The Porsche dealer opposite the Museum is open for viewing on Sunday. Club card gave me a 15% disc off merchandise in shop.

I agree that the Mercedes Museum is also worth a visit and FREE ENTRY & Audio Guide if you are a Merc Club member ... White asparagus a plenty EVERYWHERE...
