Porsche novice, a couple of queries-3.2 Targa

Hi Folks,

I have recently purchased my first Porsche, an 84 3.2 Targa in excellent cond. and am really pleased. Always wanted one and this certainly wont be the last. One big gripe though is wind noise. Above about 60 its deafening. The rubber seals were replaced 18 mths ago, but the roof has a small 'lip'or two on the front edge. Should I try to 'encourage' it back to shape, buy a new roof, or is this just one of those things with this model?

Also, I live on the N. Wales coast - does anyone know or recommend a good approved dealer/garage nearby or is Liverpool my best option?

Really appreciate any help. Excellent Forum by the way.

Welcome to the fold... I too have the same model as you.

Last year I had a full custom fit refurb of the targa roof by Southbound, and going on what I learnt, if the seals front and rear look OK, then mainly its down to adjustment of the catches, although there are some locating pins front and rear which may need to be replaced if bent. Unfortunately I do not know of a trimmer up your way, but Southbound are very approachable, give them a call as they will often be able to reccomend someone local.

Another point regarding wind noise, is through the top of the door windows, the window height and angle on my car was all wrong and had to be changed

As far as local garage services go...I'll leave that one to someone in your area!

I have an '88 Targa which does suffer from some wind noise - I guess it's a case of what you personally consider acceptable.

Firstly just check that the roof is properly unfolded and locked in position - they can undo themselves as you go along!

Also try getting the alternative clips that hold the front and rear folding bars in place - I think they've helped mine.

You can buy them at www.type-911.co.uk.
