PORSCHE ON REAR HATCH

Hi all... just a thought.. the PORSCHE logo on the rear hatch of the later 981 Caymans.. has anyone ever added this to the hatch of the earlier 987's.. which as in the case of my car only has the Cayman S lettering in chrome. Think it looks better. Any views on this.. Dave.

I removed both Porsche and model name off mine, I didn't like chrome on white + dirt gets trapped by the badges.

Removing the badges is straight forward.

First, clean and wax polish the general area around the badges to reduce the chance of scratches. Then apply heat to the badges and body surface to soften the glue, then use waxed dental flossing tape working your way under and across the badge. Then polish the now de-badged area and ensure all traces of the glue have been removed from the body surface.

Heating the glue.... you can either use a hairdryer or pour hot water on a microfibre towel and lay it on the badge and refresh it a couple of times with hot water.

There are also lots of videos on youtube.

Preferred method for a number of years for removing the lettering from the lower hatch or indeed any stuck on badge or trip is to use fishing line to effectively cut through the adhesive backing under the letters same applies to them whether Silver, Black or Chrome. Do not try this on the front Porsche Badge as this has two prongs with nuts behind. Be careful not to use too thick a line as it could catch the paint, the adhesive is a double sided tape and so you need to cut between the two.

Hi Dave

Yes I've seen this, looks quite good. It was on a red cayman

If you look on P/heads forum the thread was updating early Cayman. It was from a month or so ago.

There is some good photos

cheers steve

Fishing line comes in different strengths ie for non fishermen these are called lbs ratings.

Something to light will just break and to heavy won't go under the lettering.

Try a good quality 10lbs line, that should do the trick!

Crikey....10 lbs! Can't say I've ever used anything heavier than 6lb....which is plenty for size of chub I catch in the river. [:D]

Don't forget that when the 981's leave the factory without the 'Cayman' or 'Cayman S' logo's on the rear hatch the remaining 'Porsche' logo is set lower down by a few inches.
