Porsche paint

Does anybody know if this is available in spray-can form? If so where? I'm planning on painting the rear-half of my interior when everything is stripped-out. Thanks, Ben.

I don't know the answer but would be interested to know! Ben, what shade of black is your car? Panther or Metallic?

There is companys that will mix the paint up in any colour and put it in spray cans but i dont think its cheap !!

Go to your local auto paint factors (Look in Yellow pages). They should be able to do you an aerosol can of paint for about £9 or £10. (you'll need the code or know the name of the paint eg Guards red (Indisch Rot).

Get some primer while you're at it and sandpaper, panel wipe etc to make a good job of it.

If you need touch up paint, just squirt a bit of the aerosol in the cap and use a fine artists paintbrush to apply. Lots of thin layers in the stone chips.

A really good paint factor will put a spectragraph thingy on your paintwork and should be able to match it. If they do then keep the mixing machine ticket or spec as it will be useful in future when you need some more or if you have your car sprayed or repaired.

Thanks guys - Damon, my paint code is L041, which from what I can gather is just Black! (non-metallic). In which case, I wonder if this is 'Black gloss' on the porscheshop website?

L041 is known as Tiefschwarz but is just plain black

The mixing formulae I use show it as plain black with no other constituents added.

Porsche Shop appear to be doing everything these days. 400ml spray cans in metallic black for 17.60 exc VAT. Not bad I guess.

Now how many cans would I need to do the badge panel and front bumper!!? [;)]

For a complete large panel like that, in metallic. I would use a professional spray gun. Cans are OK for solid colous and small repairs.

Yep, understood. More a tongue in cheek comment really. Dreading going to get the bodywork quote. Its the last of my niggles to sort as I have some lacquer peel on the bumper and badge panel.

My first 944 was an S2 in Azurite Blue (LY5D), an unusual colour. An internet search turned up Auto Paint St.Helen. Good quick response and the paint was a good match. Best of all, the aerosol was only £6.99.

Unhappily some oaf in a white van rear ended me and wrote the car off. Heritage paid up the agreed value policy promptly so I bought another, this time Grand Prix White.

Yep, it's same colour although in my experience Halfords paints aren't very accurate, so probably better to get it from a specialist if possible.

Yeh I have had a couple of 'experiences' with halfords paint! What colour primer would you use? I noticed on your website that there is a bit of grey kicking about?

Yes Alan uses grey primer, I believe he finds it easier to find blemishes with it, but that's only an assumption - I can ask him tomorrow as I'm going over to see the car then. Personally I've used both white and grey primer when doing small jobs and both have been fine, but then my abilities with a spray can leave a lot to be desired!
