Porsche 911 Service Clinics take place on Saturday October 16 2010 at Porsche Centres across the UK

Accompanied complimentary inspections with a Porsche technician
With over three quarters of all Porsches ever sold still on the road, Porsche is celebrating the tenacity of its most iconic model, the 911, by inviting owners to a Service Clinic at their local Porsche Centre on Saturday October 16.

The national Porsche 911 Service Clinic provides owners with a complimentary inspection and the opportunity to accompany the technician and view their car in a state of the art Porsche workshop.
Owners can experience first hand the passion and expertise of the technicians devoted to ensuring the cars continue to deliver maximum performance and driving pleasure.

In celebration of the 911 range and for customers to learn more about their model's heritage and technical highlights, each Porsche Centre will showcase a classic 911 display, provide four wheel alignment demonstrations and invite visitors to have a look at products from the Porsche Design Driver's Selection range.

The Porsche 911 Service Clinic follows the highly successful Boxster Service Clinic held earlier in the year, which serviced over 440 Porsche Boxsters around the country in one day, This time its open to 997 owners

The Porsche 911 Service Clinic inspections are by prior appointment only and available on a first come first served basis. To learn more about the Service Clinics, owners should contact their nearest Porsche Centre or call 08457 911 911.

You missed the bit about free coffee, biscuits and buffet lunch![:D] Booked in at mine........[8D]

ORIGINAL: juliany27 That's not fair. The Gunners are playing at home on that Saturday ....
I think they will take bookings from 9am (at least mine will) so you will still be able to make it to both as I see it's not an early kick off.[:)]
and the dancing girls... or do they not have them at your OPC
Gary, you've seen the receptionists for yourself so you know the answer to that....[8D]

I am still waiting for PGB to import the new steering rack for Emma - under warranty, I'm pleased to say. At least two weeks so far and no idea when it will arrive at an OPC!!

You have no idea or they have no idea, JY? Sounds like they need a firework up the exhaust pipe![&:]

A little reminder if anyones interested of the free inspection being offered by the OPC across the UK. Might well be worth a call to see if they have spaces... garyw

Hi all Had a good time at the 911 clinic; well looked after (cheers OPC Silverstone, Craig and Paul). Coffee and danish pastries but no dancing girls (or boys) [;)] Very pleased with the feedback which was virtually nothing to report [:)] Only one point to pick up on: battery is only 70% charged (even though it is new) so I'm after a conditioner. I'm pretty sure that previous posts have recommended the Ctek 3600 xs -- is that still the one to go for? Someone is selling this (inc the cigarette lighter attachment) via Amazon for £50 which seems a pretty good price http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ctek-CTE-XS3600-Battery-Charger-Function/dp/B000RHWCNY Thanks

Yes Paul, Ctek 3600 is recommended by most! I had a fault - well two actually - show up on mine yesterday. Exhaust gas temp sensors, left and right (and the control unit) failed. These, apparently, monitor the gas temperature entering the turbo and, should that become excessive, do something to release the hot gas elsewhere rather than melt the turbine blades! (Stop me if it's getting too technical here[;)]) The service manager knew of this fault (obviously not the first he had seen then) and new ones are now on order. It doesn't affect the running of the engine in any way but a layer of protection is lost. So I got more than my expected coffee/sandwiches/pastries etc from my visit. The usual excellent service from Exeter - well done chaps (and chapesses) Oh, and I've got a nice new red splitter instead of the black one but that had little to do with the free inspection other than they fitted it for free![:)]

On Saturday I took my car to Mid-Sussex OPC for my free check-up. This is the first time the car has been there, as it was purchased from Tonbridge OPC and has since been there twice for its services. However, my Porsche Club GB membership is for the Sussex region, meaning that I was invited to their healthcheck day. On arrival we were given a friendly welcome, introduced to the Head of Servicing and to the mechanic who would be looking at my car, and then offered a drink. They mentioned the free prize draw and invited us to look around the classic Porsches on display. Once my car was up on the lift, we were first shown the brake discs / pads and shocks etc - As my car is still on the original pads and discs from new (after 32,000+ miles), i was somewhat apprehensive, and was waiting for the bad news... The tyres had only been changed a month or so ago, and so it was commented that these were clearly new, and importantly were N-rated. The technician emphasized that the front pads had about 25% wear remaining, and commented on how well the discs looked, meaning that there would be no need to consider changing the discs when the pads were changed. They also pointed out the different components of the suspension (genuinely this was of interest to me, as I'm not very technical when it comes to cars...) and commented about what great condition the plastic / rubbers were in. Although the car is only 4.5 years old, apparently sometimes the plastic / rubbers can wear prematurely or perish etc. The technician pointed out (and removed) the leaves around the front radiators and also showed me the drainage hole in the front boot, commenting how that could get clogged up with leaves, so to keep an eye on it and use a screwdriver to ensure this was clear, if necessary. Around to the rear, and the comment was that the discs looked like new, and the pads were barely worn - estimated at 20%. My wife thinks I drive quite harshly, but it's clear I still need to try a bit harder!! The car was then lifted to the top, and we walked underneath to view the underside. Obviously there were a few scrapes underneath, but i was told these were nothing to worry about - the technician pointed out where the rear near-side stone-deflector had come adrift which he then repaired. Around to the rear, and the main comment was how new the engine looked - signs of the original wax from the factory, and not even the slightest sign of oil / fluid whatsoever. Clearly nothing to worry about, although fate would dictate an IMS problem soon! All hoses, joints etc looked spotless, so no problems at all. Finally a quick look at the engine bay - again fairly spotless and no signs of any impending issues. One final comment regarding the slight scuff on the rear wheel that they could refurbish if required, and then the car was brought round to the front with the paperwork for me to take away. I then had a brief chat with one of the other (sales?) staff who was asking about the sort of other events that we might be interesting in attending. All-in-all, a very interesting, useful and free check-up! I don't need a service until March 2012, but will need the warranty extension and check-up in March 2011, so might consider taking it there rather than my local OPC (particularly if they can provide an interesting courtesy car for the day!!) A satisfied customer! Regards

Sidicks Updated to add that I've just had a telephone call to say I won their prize draw too!!!

ORIGINAL: M3RUJ I have seen a number of posts about these issues so would be very pleased to hear how this can be done (I am also not very technical and dont know where the drain hole is or where the leaves collect!!) - are you able to explain the process?
I will try and post some pictures and an explanation if I find time at the weekend! :) Sidicks
