Porsche service: OPC or specialist?

Whats the view of getting a service done by a Porsche specialist?

Closest to me is: www.jzmachtech.com

My Porsche is 8.5 years old and has a full service history at an OPC"¦.is it worth me saving some cash and using a specialist?

I am not going to sell anytime soon.

More important is specifying exactly what you want covered. Brake fluid and coolant changes? Plugs?
i do a full list and specify or provide the fluids.

Not being funny here, but will you save much at JZM? They tend to be almost as expensive as an OPC from what I've heard.

I have run a 2001 plated 996 for 10 years and my experience has been to ask your OPC for the best deal because they can negotiate especially on labour. Get a quote from the indie and the gap might not be large enough to lose that OPC stamp in the service book. Use the indie for the larger repair.

JZ isn't that much cheaper than an OPC who will probably price match them anyway
 
When I lived in North London I used to use JZ. They were always good and at the time less expensive than any OPC in the area.
 
I'd ask the OPC what they can do on price my local (Newcastle) was cheaper than indi with PCGB discount on parts and labour
 
Jz aren't any cheaper than the opc. Get them to price match the small amount of difference it will be. Roy
 
I use JZ for servicing, they have been very honnest and have saved me money over the OPC i used. I recommend them they are a good firm and I am not easy to please when it comes to garages as I use to be in the trade.

I just had a mate take his Porsche in at the weekend for some warning light that came on. He got charge £41 for half an hours checking. nothing needed doing, just resetting...he was very happy. AND...they didn't tell him he needed new tires! OPC always tell me i need new tires at it really annoys me!

The legal limit for minimum depth of the tread on your tyres is 1.6 millimetres, across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre.

For safety reasons it is recommended that you replace your tyres before the legal limit is reached. Many vehicle manufacturers recommend replacing at 3 millimetres.


If any garage or OPC tells you differently then you would be right to be [:mad:]

If you fall into the above criteria then you do need new tyres after all OPC or not [:D]

Just had a service at OPC Reading. Nice people, first class service and sound pricing with Porsche Club discounts and the OPC stamp of course. Even if an OPC recommends tyres, never, ever buy them there. Service yes, tyres no.

That is wrong. The requirement is "At least 1.6mm throughout a continuous band in the centre 3/4 of the tread and around the entire circumference "

I also think you'll find the TWI's are normally set to 2mm, which is the legal limit in most other European countries. This will give you time to replace your tyres when the TWIs show. (Although persomally, I prefer to replace mine well before that, especially if heading into winter).
