Porsche specialist recommendations..........

944Volks

New member
Hi. Liking my 944 turbo.
Had a few simple breakdowns (DME and CV joints)
Doing a European road trip.
Would like someone who really knows their 952's to look it over, (not stupidly expensive or looking to create work.) Ideally in South West UK.
Heard someone mention a company in Bournemouth? ? And anyone rate/experience of William Crawford in Plymouth? (Do they know the older stuff?).
Anyone else?

Basically looking for honest, knowledgeable, local, friendly and fair mechanicals. Asking too much..? Lol

Cotswold Porsche just north of Cheltenham have done quite a bit on my 86 Turbo and are pretty pragmatic. Just discovered UKD in Chipping Sodbury who seem to know 944's so will give them a try for my next repairs (coming soon I fear) since they are on my doorstep.

In Bournemouth there's Jon Mitchel JMG who specialises in 944's. Cotswold Porsche gave my car the once over when it i bought [2 hours labour] and came up with a very long list although not all needing immediate attention. They also look after my Cayman. I bought the Cayman from a guy who bought it from Williams Crawford. I think all three will give you a detailed examination. i get the impression Crawfords might be a tad more expensive

I'm guessing you have first hand experience? Can I ask why you rate them and you experience.?
Reason I ask.......
I went to a guy in the centre of Exeter, nice guy and Porsche specialist but really doesn't get/didn't want to get involved in 944's.

Infact I've had the same with the parts department at the Porsche dealership in Exeter.
Said they'd look into some parts, but never bother to ring back. Twice.

I have to "declare an interest"! Crispin at Oak Tree is a good friend of ours going back 40+ years. His first loves are 356 and early Porsche, but he has a sound knowledge of later cars. He's not in the best of health at the moment, but if he tells you that he can help, then he will.

I don't know Andy Moss at SCS all that well, but many in Region 15 do, and I hear a lot of good reports. He was working at the Porsche dealership in Exeter when the 944 Turbo was new, so should know them inside out.

Cheers

Andy Moss is currently working on my 944 Turbo, fixing what another "specialist" made a pigs ear of!. Talk to him, he's straightforward and really knows 944's

Yep, another +1 for SCS. Worked on loads of cars in R15, including my 928. Doubt you will find better. But they are busy....
