Guys,

What is the best and most cost effective way of getting the Porsche OE Sports Exhaust on to my car. I am outraged by the main dealer price.

Hi
You can get from Design 911 a complete valved kit for around £695+VAT then get it fitted by someone. Its Design Tek no 3606009614. Or alternatively you can fit a set of Dansk rear boxes for around £600 which is the way I went.

As per Geoff997's comment (he knows my car) it is louder when switched open than oem.
i am still very happy with it. However, my only other warning is do NOT couple the DesignTek Valvetronic with a K&N induction kit. Each on their own sounds great. Together they sound truly awful (i guess something peculiar to the resonances of those specific items) and instead of sounding like an ear catching performance car it is reminiscent of A rusted out Morris Marina with a fist sized hole in the exhaust! I had a choice of which item to remove and, for reasons of economy, had the K&N removed later the same day!

You could try another OPC........I had had a crazy price from the dealer who supplied my car but the local centre did it for much less.

The PSE as a retrofit kit is ~1.8k + Vat. The fitment of the silencers, assuming your old ones are pretty corroded, will be about 4 hours. Clamps, sleeve and new bolts required.
The wiring of the button is about 4hrs. It isn't trivial. With experience the time is less.
A specialist should charge approx 500 to fit, based on the above.
The sports sound Dansk exhaust is a very respectable alternative. No wiring required. Cost of the parts is approx. 599+vat, plus 4hrs fitting.
So 2 lower cost options available.

Thanks guys, this might sound snobbish, but I want to keep my car as 'standard' as poss and so I am resigned to including only OE parts. I am astounded at OPC East London's quote especially as I have purchased a car from them and had £1600 worth of work done last month.

Annoyed indeed. Will shop around.

Clearly a different car but I paid Cardiff OPC less than £1700 to supply and fit the OE parts for my Cayman. They had previously fitted the twin tailpipe (£400) so in total it has cost less than £2100.

Very happy with my Dansk Sports exhaust. Just adds enough of a growl when you give it the beans, without any drone on the motorway. Good price too. I wouldn't have thought a sensible respected brand aftermarket exhaust would have any noticeable detriment to the value.

Also my wife can hear me coming home and gets the kettle on ;-)

Good to hear that the Dansk option is well regarded as my C4 is having these fitted for it's mot tomorrow by DoveHouse who quoted £800+vat.

If you're having the 300.S fitted, you won't be disappointed, especially when 1 rear box from OPC is circa £950..... will be interesting to hear your thoughts after fitting...

DH fitted mine just over a month ago & my 4S sounds so much 'sportier' [:)]

The 300S is fine, the 300EXP is 105db I believe & not sure if that exceeds any legal requirements

Hi,

Earlier in the year I had a MilTech sports exhaust fitted to my Nov 2000 C4 cab cost around £800 fitted (not sure of breakdown as had a load of other stuff done at same time IMS, Evans etc) but have to say very pleased with the MilTech sounds lovely when accelerating and on run down but quiet when cruising. The IMS also made a significant difference to how smooth the engine went after the work! Not a cheap job all in but wanted to prevent if possible any of the known problems happening with the engine.

Again I would agree not having an OEM exhaust is unlikely to be detrimental to the cars value if a decent unit is fitted correctly, one side of mine was getting poor anyway so replacement was on the cards!
