Porsche Test Drive Plus (and GT40)

I was invited to this a few weeks ago and had agreat time.

I was collected from a country club in Surrey by a very pleasant driving instructor in a new Boxster.

He took me to an Ex-MOD facility where they have a test track (seen it in TV before)

He started with a couple of swiftest laps demonstrating how to drive the new car smoothly to get the most out of it.

I then got my go in the drivers seat for a few laps where I really got to appreciate the amazing handling of the car and how quickly you can drive the thing in pretty damp, slippy conditions. The car communicates ever little squirm giving the driver plenty of time to counter.

Then we went to a rather slippy area where PSM was very well demonstrated after being instructed to drive in a tight circle and told to "nail it". PSM did great job of keeping the car circling without being too intrusive. Then it was done with PSM off, very different story....the car was quick to take over if I let it (which I did a few times unintentinally!!)

Then back to the tracK for numerous more laps with the highlight of overtaking a Ford GT40 which was being driven by some journos.

It took an hour and was excellent. If you haven't done it, ask....a fantastic way to confirm the car is as great as Porsche claim and great insight for all those, like me, who have put their money down on car a 40 minute test drive which doesn't allow for this type of activity.
