Porsche Vehicle Tracking System

I have now settled on the spec for my boxster and only have 8 more weeks until delivery. Whilst I wait I am looking into insurance and my current company (CIS) has asked for a CAT 5 tracker. Within the approved list on the Thatcham site is something called Porsche Vehicle Tracking System. Has anyone come across this before as my OPC is only offering me TRACKER solutions but to be CAT5 I will need the expensive ECHO version. It is mentioned on the Porsche web site but with the comment "Only available in conjunction with preparation for vehicle tracking system." Do you think the car will have this as I didn't spot it as a selectable option? Any views on CAT5 trackers would be appreciated.

We dont have to have a Tracking system in our BoxsterS, however my insurance company (Privilige) wants one on my new Cayenne. I'll probably do it as it gives me flexibility to move and for one other reason (see below)

I researched all the systems and dismissed pretty much all of the (cheaper) ones as they where too personally intensive ie you have to track and report and control the recovery

It left 4. I worked on a 3 year plan + for pricing and generally took life time subscriptions

Porsche system is currently not available

TRACKER - 3 Options
Retrieve : £ 624 Lifetime : You call Tracker HQ and the Polise to report car stolen. Tracker HQ turns on your trasmitter, Police "try" and find it by triangulation
Monitor : £ 774 Lifetime : Car is moved .. Movment Sensor sensor signal to Tracker HQ, They call you to confirm, they call police, turn on the signal and Police "try" to find it the car
Horizon £ 999 Lifetime : Car is moved .. Movment Sensor sensor signal to Tracker HQ, They call you to confirm, they call police, turn on signal which ALSO transmits vehicles GPS position

Navtrak :
Standard System Lifetime £1,100 - Like Horizon .. Transmits vehicle GPS position to Natrak HQ and they talk police in
Proactive ADR System Lifetime £1,549 Adds Driver recognition to the system by detecting your unique Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) card. Even if the thief has your keys, unless the system can detect your ADR card, a silent alert is sent to the NavTrak control centre.

RACTrackstar
Lifetime £ 624 with the option of adding in Speed (sorry Safety) camera alerts for an additional 8GBP per month

The two cheaper Tracker systems depend on the Police finding the car.. These are first gen tracking systems and IMO replaced by GPS assisted systems. ADR is expensive for what it does

So my decision is RACTrackstar as I was going to do a RoadAngel or Talex anyway

I had put a reply together, but my cat (yes cat) sat on the machine (laptop) and managed to shut it down, so I lost the info. Can't be bothered to type it all again, so following on from other posts:

I would consider a different insurer first. I agree with Trackers but on the bases that I want one not because i'm told to have one.

If you need a CAT 5, do the 3 Trackers mentioned above conform to that? I thought only the new Echo was CAT 5, which is more expensive than Horizon.

There are some excellent devices on the market that could be construde as better than others. More expensive, provide a better overall package, but not approved under any Thatcham category i.e I-Mob. So it makes you wonder if the insurers have got it right. This is the reason I have insurance with a Co. that doesn't demand one and a device of my liking.
