Hi Guys,
Had a couple of times recently when car has been driven without transponder and havent had a call...Phoned Cobra they see the system as active etc and working...got through to Customer Services bloke and he said something about GPS signal may be a day late!!
Anyway car was at Porsche Colchester yesterday having few bits done as well as health check they didnt see any problem (had been driven there and back without transponder) that is when I realised some sort of issue...
Anyone else had siimilar problem...?
Thanks all...
Ben

I went for a quick blast to dry mine off after washing last Saturday and forgot to take the transponder. I was only 1 mile from home and Cobra rang me so Iam assured that mine does work.

Thought that may be the case but no have all the correct info for me...this is my second 911 with VTS and they were so sharp before if there was a wek signal or anything they would call me immediately...just concerned that they say it is transmitting and registering as ok and yesterday car was driven 30 miles to OPC Colchester and then back and didn't hear anything...

The GPS signal is a day late? What the.........?!! Just as well it wasn't a day late when using it in the aircraft........[:D]

Must say never had any issues with the tracker on this or previous - always been phoned immediately. In April last year we all met at Exeter OPC prior to the SW Drive weekend down in these parts. A stone had wrecked one of the a/c condensers on mine and they fixed it while we were there (such helpful folk at Exeter OPC). While they were doing it we walked a few hundred metres down the road to ogle the Ferraris. While drooling over the 430 they had in the showroom room the mobile rang to tell me my car was on the move without the fob (they had taken it for a quick test drive) Quick or what?![;)]

Exactly my point!! - something going very wrong someone could of driven off with it and if I would of been away would of never known...anyway OPC having it back to run a full diagnostic together with cobra...if it throws up something that may be of issue to anyone with VTS will post on here...

Does it only not work when you start up initially at home? The reason I ask is that I had this a couple of times and Cobra reckon it is because the car can still sense the fob on the hall table - it isnt far enough away - so the car thinks it is in the car and only realises it isnt when you stop and restart away from home. It struck me this was a bit of an issue from a security perspective so now I keep the fob further away and havent had any problems.

Hi,
Yes that is the first thing Cobra said to me however what they or I could not understand is how without the fob car was driven 30 miles to Colchester...at some point ignition would of been switched off and restarted by guys at Porsche I collected car (again without fob as I thought they had it) and drove it back and in all that time didnt have a text or call from Cobra at all...and they have the right details for me and say it is active and transmitting...sure will get to bottom of it at some point...

I heard at some point that the OPCs put the car's VTS into 'garage mode' as people often forget to leave the fob with the car (ie. it's in their pocket when they drop off the car and they drive off in the courtesy car with it still in pocket). This prevents ensuing panic when the owner receives a call from Tracker which leads him/her to believe that the car's been stolen from the garage. Just wondering if circumstances may have conspired against you:

1. The car could sense the fob in the house when you started up and 'allowed' the journey to carry on as though the fob was with the car (although I don't know why it wouldn't then raise an alert as soon as the fob was out of range - this would bother me).

2. Garage put VTS into 'garage mode' before starting the car.

3. They left it in 'garage mode' by mistake and you took it home like that.

4. Voila - VTS now not talking to fob.

Would be a strange coincidence, but.....!

sure there are lots of explanations but it happened about a month ago too...was parked close to where fob was in house - forgot to take fob with me drove 2 miles down road stoppd turned off ignition went into shop (to buy a 911 mag..haha) and again no call..could be my fobs just gone...will find out next week when car goes back and report...on my prevous 997 C4S they always called when there was a poor GPS signal they used to ask if I was driving and the fob was sitting next to me!!

I even get a text to say the battery is low on my transponder....
So hopefully indicating that its communicating well.

I've had the phone calls to prove it also.. me bad..[&:]

Ben, I hope it gets sorted, like you - I wouldn't be happy with it.

Cheers Gary,
It is probably nothing major just a reset needed but if it is an issue that I think could affect anyone else will post up the response....

the stop for the mag rules out my thinking then [;)]

I also get calls when batts low.

Maybe just a reset, as you say (which reminds me: it took flippin ages on the phone to them, going through the reset procedure after I changed the batts).

Good luck with it.
