Possible Hood Tension Issue?

[FONT=arial"]Anyone able to say what's happening here?

[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]The beading around the edge of the hood is slowly but surely becoming exposed. At least I think it is! Only noticed it the other day but I'm sure it's only recently gone like this. Also, the contour of the hood when raised is not particularly smooth "" quite creased in fact adjacent to the rear window.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=arial"]It raises and lowers fine but looks to me as though it's slipping out of the grip of whatever holds it in place around the edges and is loosing some of its tension.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I'd agree - there is a grip at the lower rear edge of the hood that holds the roof fabric in place. It looks like yours is slipping out.

[FONT=arial"]Mark, is it just a case of half dropping the hood and taking a look under the clamshell?[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I'm not sure... Only seen it once when my hood was replaced. The replacement was glued with double sided tape as it was easier than the "complicated" clamp mechanism originally used...

Having said that though, I'm sure if you take a look with the roof half open it should be visible.

[FONT=arial"]I'll take a look. Maybe Tool Pants will be along in a bit with a generous helping of useful advice! [:D][FONT=verdana, geneva"]

[FONT=arial"]Got it in one Tool Pants. I guess I should have looked before I posted!

I have several pieces of cable rather than the one each side that I guess is the norm! [&:]

Am I going to be in need of some high level technical input to replace them or is it a mix of common sense and the blindingly obvious?

Not following. There is a tension cable on each side. About a foot long. There is a silver ball joint on each end of the cable. Pic is a broken tension cable.

There are 2 other black cables under there but they go from the top motor to the top transmissions. Those cables are very long and held in place to the motor with brass clips.

For the tension cables you pull hard on the silver ball joint and it comes out. Same for each end of the cable.

[FONT=arial"]Ah... now I would have thought that I would have found a supplier for these without too much trouble.

Just completed a trawl through a handful of sites where I thought I would be able to find them. No luck!

I may of course be looking in the wrong place. Anyone had to replace theirs recently who could post an appropriate link?

[FONT=arial"]Tool Pants, what I meant was that each of the cables seems to have broken in two!

I have detached the knuckle from its fixing on one of the broken pieces (its about 6" long) from what I think is the fixing point shown in your second picture.

If you have a 986 then the part number for all 986 model years is 986 561 921 00. Same part number for left or right.

[FONT=arial"]Cables replaced and hood looking clean and tidy once again. Must have been gone for some while as once i'd replaced them, it was clear when latching the hood that there was a decent bit of pull required on the handle to get it all latched in.

Tool Pants, the number that you specified was for the fine tensioner wire that runs through the hood adjacent to the side windows (or so I'm told by Greg at PC East London). For referance, the heavy tensioner cables which you show in the pic carry the number: 986.561.191.02.

Thanks for all your input though guys... job done for the princely sum of £25.70 all up. [:)]
