Possible PASM problem?

Out driving yesterday with PASM in standard mode, I experienced a strange kick from the rear suspension in a left hander at a moderate pace, which felt as though the back end had completely let go - then slammed back onto line quite abruptly.

After that, travelling along a route I know well, the cars handling seemed all wrong - I can only describe it as if something was loose at the back end - or as if the tyres had deflated or had oil/water on them, the car "feeling" as though progress was a series of slip/grip/slip etc. Switching into "Sport" mode didn't help. The tyres were OK and it was dry and sunny.

Needless to say, I botttled it and dropped the pace right off to get home and haven't had the chance to test it further.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem and if so was it down to the suspension (bushes etc) or the PASM software? BTW my car is a September 2004 with 15k on the clock, so one of the very first in the UK. I have done 3k miles in it, so far without complaint.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of PASM anyway and would have preferred the -20mm + LSD (bought used approved and couldn't get correct spec). My previous M3 would have romped down that route yesterday at a pace I was to scared to try and emulate, due to the wayward handling.

The car is due it's 2 year service shortly and any feedback on this subject may be of use when I try to report this (assuming it happens again!).

It's precisely these sorts of possible problems that deterred me from PASM when I purchased my 997S. I chose the sport suspension to get the LSD, which was not an option with PASM. I tend to keep my cars for in excess of 3 years so future maintenance costs are important. A Porsche instructor at Millbrook was quite adamant which suspension he would choose if it were his money. Now I wonder how many of the PASM components are covered by the extended warranty? My guess is not many!

Exactly the same issue with a 987 owner on Rennteam -OPC originally blamed the winter tyres. Reboot of the pasm ecu made things better for all of 20 miles !

I have had my PASM module replaced under warranty as it failed - similar experience except it wouldn't even engage sports mode. My OPC replaced it with no hassle at all.

Thanks for the replies - I will get the OPC to look at it when it goes in for it's service shortly. Maybe it will get resolved easily? I hope so as I won't be able to live with a car on which I can't trust the handling!

I will post results in due course.

Bet the OPC says "Never heard of this problem before" [:D] Good luck
