Possible warped rear disc???

Hi All,
I have 997 that is not 2 years old until April. It is still under warranty, which I extended for 3 years anyway. Driving home from work tonight, I noticed a rubbing/repetitive thudding noise under breaking. No noise at all during driving, or pulling.
Porsche recovery (RAC) came out and have said it is likely a warped disc. Not sure how, I have not driven it hard, no excess heat, smoke etc. There is a mark on the disc that is approx the size of the pad as if it is a rust mark from being parked, but no scoring or scratches, loads of tread on pads and discs.

They have also said it wont be covered by warranty and is likely to be very expensive.

I would have thought that this would have been covered by warranty - any ideas?
Or any ideas as to what else it could be?

Brakes are the easiest parts for them to say wear and tear, so No I very much doubt you'll get a warranty claim on that.
I would have a guess that the disc rusted up against the pad and would of after a bit of hard braking returned to normal- mine are like it when the car has stood for a while, it drives along making a right rumble until I get to the daul carriageway [;)]

Saying that if there is a warped disc the OPC may offer some goodwill or offer to skim the disc...
A new set of discs and pads is roughly going to be £1k per axle..

hi gary, i did think that driving it a bit more may clear the noise if it is a build up of rust, but the noise has got worse not better with driving it.
Could the car sat for a couple of days have warped the disc or is this something that has to happen from excessive heat?

Heat warps a disc... certainly not standing- unless you'd just done a trackday and parked up with the hand brake on?? even then you'd be unlucky...
Do post what the OPC says about this

no track days or driving it hard. It was parked for maybe 3 days, driven to work fine, driving home the noise started. I had a look, could see the mark, so did a bit of driving and breaking thinking it would clear, but it got worse. I am bit unsure of taking it straight into the dealer, just incase they say "new discs" without considering it much.

Will let you know the outcome though.
 
Any possibility of debris trapped in there - particularly on the inside where it's difficult to see! My past experience of warped discs is that you can feel a "pulsing" on the brake pedal under firm, steady braking. However, any amount of guesswork will not replace a visit to the doctors to find out what the problem really is! If you doubt their diagnosis report back![;)]
 
I find it difficult to believe that, if things were fine on the journey to work, the disk would warp on the journey back. Like tscaptain I think that debris is a very probable cause, particularly given the amount of small debris that the highways authorities have been throwing around of late. Try reversing a bit of a distance and pressing the brake pedal occasionally.
