Possibly a stupid question..............

Having read a thread on here which I now cannot find regarding a Lidl battery conditioner I went out and bought one to ensure my battery stays in top condition through the winter months as my shortish journeys seem to hammer it and last year I managed to short the battery on refitting after a charge and fried the radio [:mad:]

So my question is.....do I need to disconnect the terminals of the battery when using the Tronic charger I have bought or is it safe to leave it all connected and ready for action so to speak as the last thing I want is to cause any electrical damage.

He awaits with baited breath.....

It was here ---> http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=418495

You should be able to leave connected - how did you connect?

Hi Mark, thanks for that, I haven't use the conditioner yet as I was a bit nervous after my last battery charging episode, I managed to reconnect the battery terminals in the wrong order last year which caused me a few issues that is why I thought a conditioner might be a better option if I didn't have to disconnect the battery from the car.

When you say 'should' be able to leave connected is that a can leave connected??

Leave the battery connected. DME doesn't have to re-learn when you next start it and take it for a run.

Cheers,

Leave all the battery connections as they are, just attached the croc clips of the Tronic unit to the correct battery terminals.

Alternatively cut off the croc clips and wire on one of these so you can just plug the charger/maintainer into the ciggy lighter socket by the handbrake..

Saves opening the bonnet and you don;t forget to disconnect the charger before driving off !

Why don't you use the auxillary socket, as I do, with my Optimate SPIII optimiser. On my 987 my2006, you cannot use the cigarette lighter socket to charge the battery, however, the Aux socket, underneath the armrest and just behind it, works perfectly. I leave the 30mm Aux socket adapter plug/lead, bought with my charger, plugged in and just disconnect the main lead when removing the car from the garage, it just coils up under the arm rest out of sight. I leave the window open in the garage with the lead hanging out of it, no problem. (no alarm fitted)

Here's a link to the latest version of the optimiser, you will need the extension and cigarette socket lead accesories as well:

As has been said ..just leave battery connected and use croc clips on unit .I have the same unit and great value ,also have the Ctek can see no real difference for the extra £40
