Thank you to all those who gave me advice in my last post. Just looked at a 2000 tip S with 47K for £14000, full PSH except fot the one just done. Wow!! gorgeous in dark blue metallic with light tan leather. Typical German build quality, solid and stylish. Looks to have had a bit of paint each side, (slight oversparay in door well which the dealer said they would sort) keyed I suspect, (hope to contact original owner tonight) no evidence of accident damage and has a current HPI.
I have a couple of questions, the throttle pedal needed the dtrength of an olimpic athlete to operate, is this normal? are they fly by wire? couldn't fault the car really except I was a little disappointed by the accel;eration, seemed a little slow to kick down, whether thats because I'm not used to the pedal I don't know would appreciate your thoughts. Only has one key, are they expensive.
Just got to go another sleepless night weighing up the pros and cons of 2 seater soft top ownership!!!!

I would dig deeper before buying - the throttle action on later boxsters is by wire (I may be corrected here - Mark?) and should definitely not be 'hard' to depress the pedal, at least no more so than any other car.
I would look for damage to the pedal box and any other damage caused. The overspray might also suggest a side swipe, and may not just be a 'keying' issue.
Tread very carefully and get an independent porsche dealer inspection before you buy.
Good luck
Rob

Just spoken to the original owner who confirms no serious accident damage and no other issues with the car, could it be a stiff cable?

Hi Timbo
Well, that's encouraging, but I would still advocate getting an independent porsche specialist inspect the car before you buy. At least that will enable you to sleep much better at night before and during ownership. There are MANY Boxsters out there, so the age old advice is correct - take your time and make sure you buy the right one.
I don't think that there are throttle cables on Boxsters (both mine were e-wire, which means it's all done electronically, so that cable theory may not be right)
You may easily recoup the outlay of an inspection in bargaining power on points needed to be rectified before you buy.
Good independent specialists can be found in the back of Porsche & 911 World, Excellence and GT Porsche mags just to name a few, and they will give the car a good look over as there are quite a few 'niggly' points that can be irksome if not dealt with correctly (blocked drainage holes, cracking coolant tanks, corroding rads, hood mechanisms, door membranes, RMS just to name a few) and they will know exactly what to look for.
Don't be pressured into buying too quickly.
I hope it all works out and you get the Porsche of your dreams.[;)]
Regards
Rob

Many thanks Rob, wise words indeed, just wondering if anyone know of a specialist in the Portsmouth area.

Thanks again, Timbo

This Boxster isn't in 100% health. The throttle action on a Boxster is light and precise your cars isn't![]

There are 1000's of excellent examples at reasonable prices to choose from so "be choosey" and don't rush in.

Prices of used cars are falling on a daily basis so another good reason to hold fire until the perfect car is located.

The Boxster is an excellent piece of kit but if you buy a dog with fleas you will never see joys of ownership in the right light

Good luck tracking the perfect car down ... it can be fun [8D]

Do what Daro says ...look around not saying that this is not a good car BUT there are issues to start with so IMO walk away, the market is full of Boxsters and bargains are to be had ,and as said for peace of mind get an inspection done ,you vision can be clouded when looking at cars you just want to buy .look on Pistonheads loads there Good luck in the search thats half the fun and test drive as many as you can and when you find the right one you will know

Mine has a cable as do all early 986 cars.

Looked at another identical car today, this one went much better, felt more responsive, unfortunately it seems to have an RMS leak, and doesn't have the savana leather I really like.

I would echo the advice of the guys above: take your time, prices are only going down.

Also, make sure you drive a number: and perhaps compare a 2.7 v 3.2 and a manual v tiptronic. I drove 4 before I bought mine. 1 was a complete dog (with a 34k/3 year gap in the service history) 2 were lovely (2.7 manual and 2.7 tip) which convinced me I wanted a tip and I settled on a silver (imo the perfect colour ;) 3.2 tip with every option I wanted (except heated seats). And at £14.5K for a 48k miles 2002 Boxster S I think I got a bargain :)

Oh obviously you want a FSH from either a Porsche MD or a Porsche Specialist: walk away from any without or with gaps. And if you buy privately consider a warranty: I found AA Gold to be perfect: £35/month, claim limit is the value of the car, and it includes top AA roadside assistance as well.
