potential 968 engine seizures

It may be worth 968 owners flicking over to the 944 section and just read my post on engine seizures - as it equally applies to 968's.

The posting on the 994 section "S2 project it's a bigun" contains a picture of a perished head gasket and shows exactly how the S2/968 gasket short circuits the coolant when it perishes away leaving holes connecting the top and bottom passages.
