Potential MOT failure?

Heuer

Just had the 993 serviced and MOT'd at the OPC. The MOT report however says it only just passed the emissions test with a Lambda reading of 1.3 (the limit is 1.3). Anyone know what this means in terms of longevity and the next MOT?

Do you drive the car much?

Not sure if this relates to your Lamda reading - but I was told that if you don't use your car much, then make sure before an MOT to take it for a 'hard' drive before the MOT, close to redline to burn off deposits in the engine.

No idea of this is an old wives tale?? - but on an Audi S6 which wasn't being used much failed on the emissions - very lazily it didn't go back for a re-test for over 12 months ( yes, extrememly lazy and probably illegal [8|]. . . . ) and it passed the emmisions[:D][:)][:D][:)][:D][:)][:D]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No reason to worry imo but do check the exhaust system for leaks! If you have a small hole it can easily be closed without replacing part of your exhaust but it will grow in size in the future..

The "thrashing tale" mentioned can be true for rarely used cars with ice cold catalysts but an experienced MOT tester should be able to tell and give it a good full throttle standstill one during the test. At any case though it relates to high emission problems not lambda ones...

Spoke to OPC. They say not a problem as all other readings are well within tolerances. Technician suggested they had not brought the car to operating temperature before doing the test. OPC have made a record to check emissions before MOT next year.

The car is used regularly, mostly by my wife, who drives it as though it was stolen!
