Potential oil leak

Hello

I was just having a look under the car to make sure nothing nasty on the floor as I haven't driven it much during the winter and did notice on one side of the engine near where the exhaust is a slight oil smear, nothing dripping but thought I would run it by you guys in case someone may have had the same. I guess the best bet would be to put it on a ramp but I won't be driving it until next month.

look forward to hearing anyone's thoughts on this.

Regards Phil

If its not dripping its probably not too much to worry about - bottom of my 98 C2 looks like this most of the time - I get in cleaned up when its serviced, but usually it rematerialises slowly over the next few months - my Indy (Northway) says not to worry about it unless quantity increases, apparently it could be anything from an older gasket to a porous metal issue.

If it does start leaking in any quantity it could be the RMS - its an expensive pain to fix (the seal is £20 the labout about £800 - grrr!!!!) but I understand you can live with that for quite a while as long as you keep an eye on the levels and you don't mind a few drops of oil on the drive.

Best regards.

Many thanks Jules

My rms is already leaking and has done for years, when I get the clutch done it will be replaced like you my indie recommend this just being kept an eye on which I was doing when I spotted this. I clened any oil off and will keep an eye on it but just thought I would see if any other folks have and the same issue from the same area a bit hard to see from my photo.

Cheers Phil

It's a little difficult to be sure from the picture but I would guess it is the spark plug tube seals (is the picture showing the heat shields in front of the coilpacks). We normally replace the tube and top and bottom seal. A nice job to get done when the spark plugs are due a replacement.

One of the cheapest oil leaks to fix!

Kind Regards Lee

Thanks Lee
This maybe a better picture not easy to get under but maybe a bit better to look at.

Regards Phil

There's two sensors between the plug holes. If you can there's two 10mm bolts that hold those shields on there quite easy to get off. I've got a couple of photos but I've also had trouble uploading do you have what's app I could send it.
