After an exciting drive home the other night and making hay with a pot hole, I have today replaced the rear tyre.

I shopped from all sources and it became apparent that the tyre was neither in stock and quite different from the usual.
The online people came up with a figure of £270 but none of the figures tallied up with anything on my tyre.

My usual tyre supplier finally sourced the tyre and was fitted today, no damage or marks to the rim

Final comment was that two OPC's were just as competitive as the tyre suppliers

All in £318

Have you report the incidence to the local council in-charge of that bit of the road? Put your tax money to good use, make a claim!

Did the OPC have to set the on-board pressure monitor? I was told by 'someone' that only they could change tyres[&:]
Sort of know how you feel as I had to buy 2 x 245/40 x 18's this week for my BMeer - cheap tho' at £380 for the pair.

I'm happy to say our council Tax didn't go up [8|] I wonder why....[;)]
I have been informed that the council are not liable unless they are aware of the pothole, so the first claim doesn't get paid out...
I had this happen on my previous Turbo going through Coventry [] scrapped a tyre and a GT3 rim on the rear...

Graham, the tyre pressure sensors were all working perfect after the new tyre was fitted, the place I use are a Pirelli centre of excellence and have alot experience of Porsches... one of the reasons I still use them.

didn't really help towards the saving fund for my new exhaust though [:(]

Gary,

Sorry to hear of your trouble. Coincidentally I heard on Radio 4's Today programme earlier this week about a guy who had taken to touring his local streets in the early hours spray painting yellow lines around pot holes. A spokesman for his local authority said this was an example of "selfish behaviour". I guess this gives us an insight into the twisted minds of local officials. Personally I thought he was doing the authorities work for them and providing a valuable service to the driving public.

Sorry to hear - real pain isn't it

My alloy took a scuff avoiding someone of questionable parentage who part pulled over my side of the road as I was passing the other way (at about 30mph) I had to swerve to avoid the whole side of the car being taken out but caught a pothole and scuffed a rim at the edge[>:]

Just in case I wasn't sure it was intentional he was giving me a range of handsigns at the time

Any one know roughly how much and how much time it takes to fix these things? Atre they typically wheel of jobs or not?

Quite a few wheel refurb specialists about, also chips away offer a service. They come to your car so might be worthwhile contacting them...
Sorry to hear about the damage though... []

Yep, you shouldn't pay more than £50 or so for a scuffed wheel, and when I've had them done, they've turned out superbly. I've only ever scuffed one wheel myself by the way. My ex, on the other hand, got in to our brand new Z3 (don't laugh, it was our first new owned (vs new company) car - we were very excited!), and did both front wheels within 500yds. Needless to say, I failed to see the funny side [&:].

Anyway, a follow up to my tyre post just before Christmas, when the OPC quoted me £687 for 2 x 295 30 ZR19 P-Zero Rosso's. Apart from the fact that I've got another 3 months and 3,000 miles out of the ones that they recommended I replace straightaway, I've just had my local independent (Chiltern Tyres in Marlow) fit them for £560, and I didn't even push them too hard as I like to support local independent businesses when I can.

Thanks Gents

I'll try the Chips Away guys out

Moral of the story on tyres seems to be if you have fairly standard tyres for a Porsche - don't buy at an OPC
