Hey guys, was wiring in my new stereo tonight and noticed when i connected the battery, the blowers was on(without the key in), wipers could work etc. because of the stereo needing an ignition supply, i thought i had the right wire but obviously theres something wrong that i dont know about. i know it aint the stereo because when i unplugged it, everything still was on.

what could be the problem?

Cheers

The stereo has a permanent supply to maintain presets/ clock etc. There are 2 wires one for switchable power, to operate the stereo and the permanent one.
Possibly other ancillaries have been put onto this circuit in the past to get around something?
Lots of cars have the stereo wired in so it can be used without the ignition in the auxillary position so I suppose it would be easy enough to add other things too.

Yeah I know I fit stereos everyday but when I connected the battery, the blowers came on and couldn't turn them off? Is that suppose to happen? Turned it to 0 and yet I could still hear the heater matrix/fan going?

Any ideas?

The blower should blow gently even when at position 0, but only when the ignition is on. Sounds like your ignition is permanently live somehow. I would chek the wiring directly behind the ignition switch or try turning it back a little with the key in. Often the ignition barrel gets old and worn causing problems.

Would the new fully electric seats cause this? Recently fitted them. The ignition is 100% always on because the windows will go up and down without the key.

Not sure but my seats are the only things that I can electrically adjust with the ignition fully off. Have you had an alarm fitted at some point? If so has it been fitted properly?

yeah my parents had it fitted ages ago. asked them to see if it did this when they had it and they said nope. they never had that problem.

might get an auto-elecy out to see what it could be. havent had the battery connected in a while and only just noticed with the ignition so could of recently happened or could of happened ages ago.

abit of good news, the car is going to my mates garage tomoz to get the work started [:)] first is going to get the fuel line changed. then hes going to start on the belts and water pump.

when i abit more money rolls in, the brakes all round will be done, the exhaust and finally put through an MOT.

Not sure if it helps, but my windows work with the ignition off but only when a door is open. Which is quite handy.

That is correct, Porsche wired it that way & it is detailed in the handbook.
