Power chips

Do any of you have any experience of the various aftermarket power chips?

What are your views, are they worth having or best avoided? Any particular recommmendations?

Thanks
David

I had a Promax chip in for a while and it was very good, I took it out when I did other mods and then went for a custom re-map. The Promax smooths out the powerband, and makes the car more driveable. I have a Promax in my S2 and would recommend them.

IMO the Promax chip at about £100 is the best bang per buck you can get in what I call 'real' mods to our engines. After that investment extra horses are very much harder to find!

NB the Promax chip is optimised for s/unleaded and does smooth out the power delivery very nicely -- it adds lots of mid-range torque which adds to the grin factor. Of course any benefits are reduced if the top end of the engine is not working properly eg valves not sealing and thus down on compression.

The promax as the others have said are very good value..
BUT there is another alternative...
A proper live mapp. Only slight snag, its around £300-£400...
Just had my car done + its transformed the car...Although the car / engine needs to be in TOP form to benefit fully, as Paul said , about the valves + injectors etc etc etc ...
I had a promx chip in, + the car was improved, [ drivabilty wise] but its now tramsformed....[:D][:D][:D]. Not much in the way of BHP gains, just a better drive across the board. [:D][;)][:D][;)][:D][;)][:D]

Wayne Schofield has just done a live remap on my 964RS with Motec.

The car does feel much more crisp and most importantly, is optimised now for all he changes I have made.

317 BHP with a 103.5dB exhaust and 306 ft lbs of torque can't be bad from an otherwise standard engine!

(Have to do something to try and keep up with you guys' in fast 968's [;)][;)])
