Does anybody have any advice/comments on the required tension of the PAS belt. I realise no adjustment is avail but was looking for an idea of whether the belt can stretch. 97 R plate cab has 46k on clock and belt looks OK but does appear slack especially when compared to v belts etc

Its probably the origial belt! put a new toothed belt on.
Blimey,I currently have the car stripped to do exactly the same jobs!
Mines done 115000 miles and doesnt look like its been replaced, the inside of the teeth have all but worn away and its very slack.
My plan is to replace.
I got some advice and they are pretty slack and dont need tensioning as they are under very little load.
Apparently they just slip on and off,but can be a bit fiddly the 1st time.
Best of luck.

A coincidence right enough - I had intended to (simply?) fix leaky cam cover but noticed one of the leads was in a bad way ended up with leads and dist cap etc. The PAS belt looks ok but is slack so probably best to change when in that vicinity 11 years is a long time for a belt even if mileage not as high as yours. I will be surprised if it slips on. Good luck to you as well!
Done everything,
Plugs,leads,gaskets,v-belts,fuel filter,oil change.
Also did the power steering belt...No it didnt just pull off,I ended up taking the cam pully off,but this was ok and made the job easy.
Car started after 10 secs of the crank turning, obviously due to the dry fuel filter...Runs like a dream.
These cars are not hard DIY cars to work on if you have the time and patience[].
Very happy on the labour costs I have saved[]
