Power Steering Pulley Advice

Hi

My power steering pulley, for my 84 model, has sheered off - I’ll post a photo later, its in a right state!

Can anyone advise whether its straight forward to replace? The Porsche engine diagrams seem to indicate that a crankshaft bolt needs to be remove? Bolt 11.

is this correct?

All advise welcom,

Thanks,
Spence

Hi Spence

IIRC the steering pump and timing belt pulley's are bolted together with 4 small bolts and then both held to the crank with the large crank bolt. Again IIRC this bolt is torqued at 150lbs but do check this figure, it's very important.

Hi there

Yes in answer to your question, to replace the PAS pulley you will need to remove the main crankshaft bolt - to do the job properly and easily you'll also need a flywheel lock, a 24mm deep socket and a decent long breaker bar,

Thanks for the advice. Quite an expensive bit of metal to repalce £££

As promised, here's a picture of the original pulley that decided it wanted a new life but got trapped by the under tray.

Woolies workshop for a replacement, and it was 150ft/lbs last time it was done up, it will be a lot tighter to undo

Last time on my wife's 924S-used my then new 700mm breaker bar with 1m length of scaffold tube as well with my son helping -
of course you also have to remove the starter motor to fit the flywheel lock.( mine's home made ).
Still hard to torque up to final figure afterwards to ensure oil pump drive is ok.

Yip it's a tight bolt all right!! I'm sure I have a spare part 13 lying about somewhere but that looks like part 12 unfortunately. Part 13 was about £100 5 years ago.
