Power window Problem!!! Please Help!

Hi guys, I have a problem with the electric window on the passenger side. The driver side window works just fine.

When I first got the car the window was working ok but stopped all together later on. After stripping the door I found that the mechanism was a bit rusty so I cleaned it up and lubricated the lot. Turns out that the original motor works fine. The problem is that it will only close the window. I thought that the switch must be faulty, but I swapped it with the working one and it will still only close the window.
Did anybody have a similar problem? I had a look in Clark's Garage but had no luck finding an answer :( Please someone help.

If you know the motor works in one direction and that the switch works then it may be wiring. Be methodical, and work your way along the circuit with a continuity tester to see what you find.

Is it possible that the motor has failed such that it will only turn in one direction? Sounds unlikely to me. You could try applying 12v across the motor terminals in both directions to make sure that it will work both ways tho'.

Oli.

When you press the down button does the voltmeter deflect? If not, it's probably not making contact somewhere.

I would suspect a bit of corrosion due to lack of use in the switch connector on the down circuit.

The passenger switch on the drivers side doesn't do anything! but when i plugged it into the working drivers side it was all good. I havn't touched the wires so I think it may be the corrosion. Will have to give it another go I think on Saturday, but not sure where to look :(

Try the connections at the end of the loom where the switch plugs in. Get a bit of emery paper in/round them?

Bear in mind that the passenger's switch on the driver's side is needed to feed the passenger's side switch; mine worked fine when I used it, but the passenger's switch didn't work; it was a problem with the driver's switch that created the problem.

And yes, I only found this out having dismantled the passenger's side door to check the loom, etc!
