Are you thinking of a relay as don't know of a control unit the relay is in the fuse box.

Yes there is a relay behind the clock this one will allow you to close the windows and sun roof without ignition on but with a door open and is controlled by the door pin switches witch also control the interior light,
you can hear this work by putting your ear near the clock and push the pin switch should hear a clicking noise. i think this is the part number 944-615-112-02.

Might be easiest to access by removing the front compartment carpeting and then the cardboard divider?
Might need to remove cold air blower box also

I think you can get to it without removing the blower. I had a buzzing sound from behind the dash when the passenger door was opened and eventually traced it to the window relay - I have no recollection of having to muck about with the blower. But it's been a few months! [:)] The root cause of the buzzing turned out to be door contact switches that needed a few seconds with a brass bristle brush to clean the contact surfaces.
