PPF and new porsche paint

Archied

New member
My new Targa GTS has arrived at the dealer. I've opted to have them send it as is to a professional detailer to have ppf and gtechniq applied. I've done a decent amount of research and weighed the pro's and con's but feel very happy to have selected a detailer and agreed on a process. I'll do a full post with photos as it goes through its treatment in July. As is nearly always the case at the last minute a question arose that I hadn't thought of. Does Porsche new paint require a period of "gassing out/off" prior to any treatment on the surface or is that an older term for less environmentally acceptable paints? I'll speak to the firm today see what they say, but curious if any of the members knew? As for the treatment Ive opted for new car preparation treatment, with a single stage machine polish, application of Gtechniq ExoV3 and Gtechniq Glass treatment. Then ppf on full front (bonnet, bumper, mirrors, wings,) doors, side sills, rocker panels and lower rear bumper. ) I'll keep you updated, will be interesting to see what a professional detailer makes of the factory paint job etc. Whole process will take more than a week, I'm not rushing them at all.

I have a 2013 C2S which had Gtechniq applied professionally when new and it was done throughout glass, leather etc. Nearly four years on I am not all that impressed, l can see swirls on the paint work, the glass shows a mark where the wipers run and the leather is looking grubby. As to your question about new paint, I don't think that was an issue, Porsche paint is fragile at the beginning anyway so, unless you are going to leave it in the sun for three months to cure and not use it, there is little point in waiting. My professional recommended from new. I have an eight year old Mercedes which had Starbrite applied and it is in a much better condition than the Porsche is now with the same care from me!! Sorry for the doom and gloom but I thought you may care for the opinion, I shall not use them again.

To the OP you won't need to wait, the paint is ready for your detailer. Unlike Salisbee I've been very impressed with GTechniq having had four cars prepped with it over the last few years. Although a very tough coating, a sensible approach to washing will pay dividends.

I also had the same concerns regarding the gassing off period from reading other forums about new paint, although there was a delay of about 4 weeks from the 911 S4 arriving at the dealership and the handover. I arranged with the dealership for them not to do a major prep as I already arranged for the bodywork to have a stage 1 machine polish ensuring the paint was in pristine finish ready for a total Xpel Ultimate PPF installation and then a coating of Gyeon Q2 MOHS by the detailer and film installer. It took over a week for the work to be completed. I have not noticed any issues with the paint, I was originally intended to have the headlights covered in film however from reading on other forums experiences I decided against it due to possible delamination issues occurring.

Here is a pic all finished ready to drive back home.
