Pre Facelift Boot/Bonnet Release

Hi all,

I have recently bought a pre-facelift Carrera 4, the first Porsche I have owned.

I am certain that anyone with the old style silver boot/bonnet releases will have had theirs scuffed at some point (which really detracts from the cars interior IMO) so was just wondering what you guys had done to sort them out... either replacing or painting or something else.

Does painting not look rubbish by the way?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I expect painting them would not be satisfactory. It would look like you had repainted them...

I saw some information on RennTech about this, also replacement handles available on ebay. You could also buy replacements from Porsche dealer. When I got my car, I replaced the plastic panels in the boot to get rid of some scuffs, £70 well spent at the Parts Department.

For example:

Careful with the US Ebay site for this particular item despite the tempting $/£ rate.....

Are they the same side as over here or are theirs fitted on the LH side????[:D][:-]

Think it might be better to stick to Porsche UK bits....

I am surprised that no-one has made these or in fact done a diy article on swapping out. Virtually all cars I looked at had scuff marks.... some serious.

It doesn't look that easy to get them out mind....

If you get them replaced, you can put armourfend on them to prevent damaging scratches reoccuring. I remember that dealerhips used to do this when the levers got replaced under warranty in the early days...

Very good thinking... wouldn't have thought of that.

Right, looks like I need to stop being a cheap scate and just buy a couple of replacements from local dealer.

As Tim mentioned, does anyone know how easy they are to fit?

I enquired about the price for the bonnet handle and was told I would have to buy both handles (the previous part had been superseded, possibly a colour match thing the parts guy said, but I'm not sure about that: they are still artic silver presumably) for £100 + vat, and they keep them in stock. Haven't got them yet and don't know how difficult they will be to replace.
