Hi guys,
My dad is considering selling his Cayenne and purchasing a 996. We are aware of the various problems that are linked with the 3.4's but have not seen much regarding any problems regarding the 3.6's. He would like to know please whether these have there there own set of problems or are a superior engine in regards to both reliability as well as that little extra performance?
Any help would be greatly appreciated by him.
Thanks,

The 3.6 still can suffer from the same problems of the 3.4, and this continued into the 997. It's not until you get to the gen 2 997 engines that you are in the clear (unless of course you go the turbo or GT3 route).

But I ran a 3.6 for a few years and it was great, and engine failures are statistically very rare and to my mind not worth worrying about.

But it's not just the better sound and performance you get with the 3.6 - you also get the better interior, better styling etc. Definitely worth the small extra cost.

I can't think of a better car for mid-teens money (other than a modified 944 turbo, obviously!). Or a Maserati. Or an SL55. Or...
