Pre Purchase Inspection Recommendations...

Hi there:

Finally ready to get back into a 911, specifically a 997.2.

I'm not too worried about mileage so long as there's a full service history, but I would want someone knowledgeable to look the car over before buying...

Please could someone recommend a good PPI person or company in Wiltshire? Preferably with a bore-scope and a tool to read over-rev ignitions? (I had one in the States, obviously not PIWIS, but I could check engines with it on my laptop, can't remember what it was called).

Thanks in advance...

If you want a bore scope and good ppi, a fixed base specialist would be better than a mobile- most mobile won't bore scope the car and you can do a better inspection with good workshop access. I know you mention Wiltshire but 997.2 manual cars are rare- Presume you want a manual as its hard to over-rev a PDK- so consider contacting a fixed base specialist near the car.
Good luck in your search.

Hi Nigel,

You could try Porsche Inspections who are based in Buckingham and will travel. Reputable Porsche Independents like Jaz Porsche, JZM Porsche and RPM Technik will also carry out PPIs, although most will require you to take take the car to them for the inspection. Northway Porsche are closer to you and seem to be well regarded by Club Members; they may be able to assist to you.

Since you’re looking to purchase a Gen2 car I wouldn’t be concerned about bore scoring issues, other than normal wear on high mileage cars. In addition to a number of other significant changes the updated engine used a completely different process for the cylinder block compared with that for the Gen1 engine - Alusil vs Lokasil - and bore scoring is very rarely encountered.
