Price advice please -time is short!!

Hello 964 enthusiasts. I have a 993 and am looking at a 964 tomorrow. I had a 3.2 Carrera before the 993 but have always hankered after a 964 - for lots of very good reasons.

The car I'm looking at is a '92 C4 in GP White with 92k miles. Does £14k (private) sound about right for a car described as being in 'excellent condition'? I'd also appreciate any thoughts on known problems. It had a new clutch a couple of years ago and I don't know if late 964s were prone to RMS leaks etc.

The bottom line is that I would be extremely grateful for the views of the experts and enthusiasts - hopefully one or 2 will be able to respond tonight as I am looking at it tomorrow!! Perhaps there is a website with background/technical advice on the 964? Any assistance or advice will be gratefully accepted.

My PCGB membership is just up for renewal, with (potentially) 2 in the fold it is starting to look like very good value - for the forum if nothing else!

Thanks in anticipation,

MartynS

£14K sounds about right for a good private car, though for that I'd be looking for a decent service history with a big pile of receipts for work carried out. You obviously know your way around a Porsche but look out for the usual 964 problems such as oil leaks ( if it does leak, then how bad is it?). Its also worth checking whether its had the distributor vent mod carried out (most will) - to my mind this should give you an indication as to whether the previous owners have actually cared about the car. The other potentially expensive items to check are the obvious ones like tyres as most Porsches (by their very nature) are usually never too far away from needing a new set. And don't forget you can blow a fortune a small silly things like a new set of plugs and HT leads, new discs/pads, oil lines, odd bits of exhaust clamps etc - it can all mount up.
All good fun though and good luck!
