so would you expect to pay retail for a part bought by an indy from an OPC..... as part of a job being done.....

they have a trade account, but then it would appear they charge retail price for it......

that can't be right ?

should it be less or ??

Standard practice for most trades, not just car repairs. It is a way to make a little bit of money, covers phone calls, collecting parts etc.
Some people will even charge retail plus percentage.
Cheers,

Fairly std discount is 10% for traders which is why the better Independants charge the Retail prices. I dont be grudge them that as they have to order, settle the accounts, cashflow , bad debtors etc etc

OPC's *can* give up to 15% - I seem to recall on most parts they themselves get around 18% - normal discount to an independant is around 10%

If you get to know your OPC's parts department really well, you should be able to get a similar discount.

It's the same for bike shops - the small independant guys are by far the best. But the amount of time you get from them is influenced by how you treat them. At my bike shop there are customers who buy parts on the internet and then pay the shop to fit them, and people like me who pay retail prices in the shop and pay the shop to fit them. But it's clear who gets the best mechanics working on their bike, the genuine advice, the extra time spent for free to sort out complaints etc etc.

Loyalty works both ways. IMHO.

These guys need to stay in business so we can carry on using them.

and here I was expecting an entire ranting of posts about swindling indy's !!!

I don't see why I should pay retail for the parts........ the logistics of trade is why they are there....

I've always asked for the 10% off when OPC parts are involved, it's the least they could do....
