Prices on the up?

I often browse the PH classifieds to see what has come up for sale and if I'm very much not mistaken, prices appear to be stronger than they were a year or two ago. Then, you could often see a number of cars hovering around the £10K/£11K mark. There now seems to be fewer of those about and a lot more being advertised at £16K and upwards.

I know the 'for sale' price is not always the same as the 'sold' price but what do you think? Is the 964 finally becoming a desirable car? [:D]

It's interesting to contrast this against insurance company 'agreed valuation'. If this clause is designed to allow you to replace your 964 in the current market then £14-16k is surely what these cars are worth? The insurance book value is way below £10k!

Indeed, we would be well out of pocket. I think a guaranteed value for insurance is essential. With my Classicline policy they sent me a self assesment form which I just needed to fill out and send back with photo. They approved my valuation of £14K without any fuss but I'll be putting it up this year [;)] . They allow you to assess the value of your own car if it is less than £20K.

Hi Steve,

Mine was agreed value at 15K over 2 years ago with Haggerty without any quibbles and has been fully repainted since. Got to be 16k now, although I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find an equivalent for that.

911&PW & Total 911 are both doing good jobs of pushing up the value too I think. Comments like "buy one before the price goes up" from this months 911 &PW helps.

Hopefully catch up with you and Kath some time this year.

It's only a matter of time. Good 964s have always been in demand and each year less and less make the grade.

Ian.

I supplied photos etc & have an agreed value also (£15 000) with Heritage.

Bobster I dont mean to go off track too much but where did you get your respray done and were you pleased with the result?

That's good info about what's starting to appear in the mags [:)]. Check your diary to see if our Donington day works for you and Michelle. Even without tracking, I'm sure you would enjoy the atmosphere. More so, if it means stopping over the night before and having a beer or two with us [;)]

Steve, when is Donnington? I've tried searching and can't find anything.

Gazza, my car was painted by David Newtons guys at Sandydown Bodywoks near Stockbridge, Hampshire. A very good job and they were very accomodating. They've done plenty of 911s and know there way around them.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]From Heritage/Chaucer I have an agreed value of £17k. Can't complain; annual premium of £345 inc EU breakdown etc and trackday cover all in SW12 (garaged though).

Think prices need to go up further though for most of us to 'get our money back' - all that TLC and hard earned cash for all sorts of crazy parts and bits of work..!

Can you believe nearly 700 997's on PH compared to 45 964's! I read that even Walter Rohl, despite all he gets offered for free, has stuck with his own 964 RS - says it all really.

Yup, values are definately going up. Over the last 2-3 years ive been watching and C2 coupes are going through the roof, with C4 coupes and then cabs and targas following.

Mines valued at £18K with mods and condition taken into consideration. Still, alot gets spent and it would be hard to replacer her with current prices.

Chris

I like the sound of this, with all the money our C4 has swallowed since we got her it's nice to hope there is light at the end of the tunnel, although I can't imagine we would ever get rid of her in the immediate future..

does it not worry you guys that we all might own a fantastic car but wont have any petrol to put in it i suppose we can still look at them brings a smile to my face anyway[:)]

Its a comforting thought after cherishing our cars like we do and restoring them at sometimes great expense. Its worth every penny, but upwards valuations is at least some sort of recognition.

I saw the comments in this months total 911 and it put a smile on my face, though the actual reason I bought it was the article on John Baggiano's 964 Wales run :)

My cars back from a carpet retrim and audio install 25th Feb... I expect to show my face finally after that :)

My targa has agreed value of £22k with Haggerty. To be honest im not at all surprised values are on the up. after owning a 930 and 964 3.6
turbo i am very happy with my slightly modified 964 and enjoy it just as much in slightly different ways for a fraction of the cost.

I've followed these leads with interest. As a retired insurance underwriter I can tell you agreed valuations bear no real reflection on the resale value of the car. The valuation agreed by you with your insurer is set really by you depending on condition, mileage, age etc and provided it is within an "acceptable band" that the insurer will have pre-set for these cars, it will generally be accepted.
As I was, rather foolhardily, thinking of selling my C2 before Christmas, I had a range of offers between £17k and £21k. I decided I just couldn't part with it, but what this shows is that these cars in good condition are becoming harder to get hold of; supply and demand and all that. Top quality 964s are becoming scarce and I expect prices to be up round the £18k to £20 k before too long for the best ones.
We'll wait and see
Cheers
Chris

Point taken Chris. When it comes to resale a PCGB valuation certificate may be
be of more help than an agreed value with insurance company.Well done
on keeping yours , nice to know shes waiting for you in the garage isnt it.
