[FONT=arial"]Hi [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]I have recently acquired a 996 convertible. [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]I try to regularly use the roof mechanism to keep it freed up.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]This weekend I folded the roof down and when I put it back up again everything went into place ok but when the hook that attaches the root to the windscreen pulled in it kept operating and repeatedly tried to pull the roof into place. [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]It has hooked into the hole ok but appears not to be triggering the micro switch telling it its in place. I manually pushed the micro switch with a small screwdriver and that did the trick.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]Any ideas on adjusting this gratefully received.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=arial"]Thanks[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I had the same problem with my roof. I unscrewed the 'locking mechanism' that the catch fastens into & the wire that is attached to the microswitch was trapped between the 'locking mechanism' & the bodywork, this must have caused the mechanism not to sit properly. In a 3 handed operation, 1 to hold the mechanism, 1 to hold the wire out of the way whlst 1 screwed it back together. Everything has been perfect since. Also this problem may cause the rear windows to fail to work as well

The other thing that can cause this is LOW oil in the reservoir. To check this Open The RooF Half Way Lift the Roof manually from the back and remove the two wire units that connect the roof to the body (Available on eBay at 19.95 each) Push the rear part of the roof up and you will see the reservoir in the middle with two hydraulic Pipes going to it either side In the Middle is a view hole and this should show nearly full. This is critical There is a plug which allows a top up

I had to buy a short set of star keys to get it into the slot YOU MUST USE PORSCHE ORIGINAL RESEVOIR OIL PN 00004320489

Put a piece of cloth under the hole as its bound to leak out

Mine just needed a bit of a clean and grease on the lugs each side of the windscreen. They had got dirty and the puller mech was having trouble pulling the roof in tight and did exactly the same as yours.

I have recently bought a 996 C4S convertible, which I must say is the best car I have ever owned.

My problem with the roof is that when I close the roof with the remote button on the key all closes fine apart from the windows do not close ?

But when you close the roof with the button on the dash it seems to work just fine, any ideas please ?

Are you waiting for the Windows to Close on the Remote - It does take a few seconds before they close after it all senses the roof is shut Also You need to make sure Windows are closed when it opens - if that makes sense I think the Key Remote restores it to its previous setting Have you fitted the aupt close Unit that is available

Makes a big difference - 25 mph open/close, Shuts/opens fully without keeping the Button down allows rear windows to Close when roof is open

About 200.00

Hi and thanks for your reply.

yes I am waiting for the Windows to close, and I think I already have the aupt unit installed because it works up to 30mph but doesn't close the back windows when the roof is open.

Can an independent Porsche dealer sort the key out as apposed going to Porsche which would charge the earth ?

Thanks

Ali
