Problem with CDC-4 CD autochanger

Can anyone help?

I've got a problem with my CD autochanger in my Boxster, when I insert the CD magazine I sometime find that some of the discs are not recognised. If I remove the magazine and re-insert it, but first rearranging the discs, the changer will sometimes recognise all the discs. My local Porsche centre has replaced the PCM and autochanger under warranty but they are now say that the fibre optic cable will need to be replaced which will involve a new car wiring loom and the need to remove the dashboard! The fact that some of the disc will work would suggest that the fibre optic cable is OK and the fault is with the changer or PCM.

The car is only six months old and I don't really want the dash out.

Is this a known fault with a simple solution or is a new fibre optic cable the only remedy?

Thanks

I have the same problem. Quite often my Disc 1 is not recognised. To fix it, I load one of the other discs and then re-attempt to load Disc 1 and it usually works. Alternatively, powering off the CDR-23 and powering it on again also fixes the problem every now and then.

Try selecting an adjacent disc (eg. if Disc 2 is not loading then try loading Disc 1 or Disc 3). Then load the Disc that is causing the problem. The magazine and mechanism for the autochanger is very flimsy so it doesn't surprise me that the discs don't load sometimes.

If you live in London you need to speak to Terry Halliday who does all the trouble shooting for Porsche.

He is a personal friend of mine and he will give the best advice going

I've just bought a 3.2 02 plate. It has a CDR32 (or 23!) without the changer.
Is it possible to fit aftermarket CD changers or hard-drive style jukeboxes?
What brand do Porsche use - is it unbranded Blaupunkt?
Any info would be great.
Thanks, Kes.
