Problem with clocks

Hi,

The middle LCD display on my clocks are no longer visible/illuminated. I can still see the speed changing albeit faintly. Any suggestions on how this can be rectified? The displays to the left and right both work perfectly.

In the early clusters there are backlight bulbs which can be replaced when this happens. It's a bit of a pain to remove the cluster and strip it down, but it isn't impossible.

Thanks for quick reply Richard.

Some fun ahead so. Any suggestions as to where I can source the backlight bulbs or is it Porsche only?

You should be able to source them at a motor factor/Halfrauds, etc. There are two different wattage bulbs used - 1.2W and 1.5W. Type number is EBS-P/4-A. I'm not sure which one you need, but it is shown in the workshop manual, which I believe you have.

Edit: Looking at it, there is also a 3W bulb, but it doesn't show it in the bulb table (on the Technical Articles pages). The PET lists the 3 bulbs as:
999.631.304.90 - 3W - £5.60+VAT each
999.631.303.90 - 1.5W - £4.48+VAT each
999.631.302.90 - 1.2W - £4.48+VAT each

I wonder why they call you the Tech Guru Richard ? [:)]

Thanks for the help. I'll order those bits. May even take my owns pics of procedure for other who may encounter this problem.

I also found this on the thread you posted:
